Firebreather Sign to Suicide Records; Self-Titled Debut Coming Soon

Posted in Whathaveyou on April 10th, 2017 by JJ Koczan

Swedish burl-riffers Firebreather will make their self-titled debut later this year through Suicide Records. I don’t know exactly when, but the label in announcing it had signed the band gave a tentative date of “summer” and as it seems that the record’s already been mastered — by none less than Brad Boatright of Audiosiege himself — so given invariable pressing delays, that sounds about right as a seasonal ballpark. The Göteborg trio, which boasts in its ranks former Galvano guitarist Mattias Nööjd, have a minute-long trailer for the album playing now that you can hear below, and yeah, that sounds about right.

Firebreather have been playing locally in Sweden and done a few dates out, but I wouldn’t be surprised if more touring was to come. You might recall Galvano had at one point hit the road with Zaum and were signed to Candlelight, so it seems entirely likely Nööjd will look to recapture some of that momentum with this new outfit as they move into releasing their first long-player and getting out to support it. When, if and what I hear, I’ll let you know.

Till then, Suicide Records sent over the following:

firebreather

We are extremely psyched to announce that Swedish Sludge/Doom trio Firebreather has signed with us at Suicide Records and that we will be releasing their debut S/T album this summer on Vinyl, Cassette, CD and Digital, exact date TBA.

Firebreather emerged from the ashes of doom-metal heavy-weights Galvano when riff extraordinaire and Orange Ambassador Mattias Nööjd decided to start a new band after Galvano being put to rest.

Forming in the spring of 2016 FIREBREATHER have quickly gained attention and notoriety for their distinct heavy sound and songwriting.

Since FIREBREATHERs’ beginnings, the band has established a growing grass-roots underground following throughout Europe after only a short tour and taking to the stage with bands such as Zaum (CAN) and finally performing their first hometown show with Boris (JPN) in the late fall of 2016.

Line-up
Mattias Nööjd – Guitar & Vocals
Tommy Hanning – Drums
Kyle Pitcher – Bass

Galvano Touring Europe in Nov. with Snailking and Zaum

Posted in Whathaveyou on September 3rd, 2015 by JJ Koczan

galvano

Swedish twofer Galvano will hit the road next month across Western Europe in support of their earlier-2015 release, Trail of the Serpent, which is also their debut on Candlelight Records. They’re joined for the trek by their countrymen in Snailking and Canada’s Zaum, who I hear will have a new record out in 2016, which is surely good news for anyone who likes their heavy with a bit of ritual behind it. Which I think is just about everybody at this point. Or, at very least, me. Ha.

It’s a more than solid bill, though, with the three bands, and they’ll meet up with the likes of Pentagram and Graveyard along the way as well, so all the better. Dates and background on Trail of the Serpent follow, as well as the stream of the album, all courtesy of the PR wire:

We are hitting Europe again in November, this time with our friends in Snailking and ZAUM. Excited to return to France, this time sharing stage with the mighty Pentagram! Hope to see you out there! Go like these killer bands and share this poster. Thank you.

From the deepest, nastiest recesses of Gothenburg comes crushing Swedish sludge duo Galvano. Now comprising Mattias Noojd (guitars/vocals) and Fredrik Kall (drums), Galvano originally started out as a three-piece in 2005.

Galvano embarked on their first mini tour in 2010 visiting Denmark and a set of German cities. That same year the band were asked to feature on a split so they went into the studio and recorded the epic single The Librarian which was mixed and mastered by the legendary Billy Anderson (Orange Goblin, Cathedral, Eyehategod).

This was released as a 10 in 2011 on SM Musik from Leipzig, Germany. The release was then followed up by a full European tour. After this tour the band said goodbye to their fourth bass player and decided to move on as a duo. Early in 2012 they teamed up with UK based label Devouter Records for the release of their debut full-length album Two Titans. The album was released on December 5th and was very well received by both fans and media.

Since then the band has played over 35 shows during several European tours including UK and Ireland. In January 2015, Galvano signed with Candlelight Records.

Galvano Sign to Candlelight Records

Posted in Whathaveyou on February 3rd, 2015 by JJ Koczan

galvano

Gothenburg two-piece Galvano have signed a deal to release their next album on Candlelight Records. The guitar/drums duo of Mattias Nööjd (also vocals) and Fredrik Käll made their full-length debut with 2012’s Two Titans on Devouter Records and have been steadily playing shows and have been confirmed for an appearance at this year’s Desertfest London alongside their labelmates in Orange Goblin, who’ll headline with Red Fang.

The band sent this update down the PR wire:

Candlelight Records Sign Swedish Sludge Duo GALVANO

From the deepest, nastiest recesses of Gothenburg comes crushing Swedish sludge duo Galvano. Now comprising Mattias Nööjd (guitars/vocals) and Fredrik Käll (drums), Galvano originally started out as a three-piece in 2005. Within two years a demo was released and live shows played.

Galvano embarked on their first mini tour in 2010 visiting Denmark and a set of German cities. That same year the band were asked to feature on a split so they went into the studio and recorded the epic single “The Librarian” which was mixed and mastered by the legendary Billy Anderson (Orange Goblin, Cathedral, Eyehategod). Since then the band has played over 35 shows during several European tours including UK and Ireland and are confirmed to play this year’s Desertfest in Camden, London.

In January 2015, Galvano signed with Candlelight Records and the band had this to say:

“Candlelight is a label with such an impressive roster throughout the years and we’re very happy to join the ranks alongside bands like Orange Goblin, Corrosion of Conformity and our buddies in Zatokrev just to name a few. We’re also very fond of the people working there. Looking very much forward to this release.”

Galvano Get Ethereal in New Video…

Posted in Bootleg Theater on July 3rd, 2013 by JJ Koczan

…Well, sort of. Mostly they get black and white. And heavy. And uplit. Whatever it takes, I guess.

Might seem obvious upon hearing their 2012 Two Titans album (streaming in full under the PR wire info), but Galvano dig pretty hard into Black Cobra-style heavy rock extremity, keeping a touch more to the stoner side, but still pushing the volume and tempo as high as they’re willing to go. The band released Two Titans on Devouter Records out of the UK and their new video from that album is for the track “Ethereal Sword,” which you can check out below, followed by more album info off the PR wire:

Galvano, “Ethereal Sword” official video

Galvano hail from Gothenburg, Sweden and comprises of duo Fredrik and Mattias. Formed in 2005, the band had one direction and one aim, to create something heavy. But it wasn’t until 2007 that the band let the outside world hear what they were creating when they released their first demo and started to play shows. The following years saw more touring across Europe playing alongside bands such as Black Breath and Alaskan.

The bands only other previous release came in 2010 in the form of a split 10” with German band Kasan. The band recorded the epic single ‘The Librarian’ which was mixed and mastered by the legendary Billy Anderson and released on SM Musik.

Two Titans sees the duo deliver sludgy powerful riffs and intense drumming combined with slowed down dark passages. They enable you to go through a full spectrum of emotions then back again. Mattius (singer/guitarist) says:

“All these songs are personal, all the way throughout the record. They are about personal matters and demons. It’s about finding the darkest corners, the dark lord within and to show up for battle. Portrayed as two titans in constant battle: Good/Evil, Darkness/Light and so on. And sometimes wanting to embrace either side. It’s about knowing when your mind is pulling tricks and being able to stop it. It’s also celebrating our musical force as a duo.”

Galvano will be hitting towns and cities across Europe over the coming months.

Galvano Release Two Titans; Album Streaming Now

Posted in Whathaveyou on November 13th, 2012 by JJ Koczan

Formerly a trio, the Gothenburg-based guitar/drums twosome Galvano have released their first full-length, ambitiously dubbed Two Titans. The album is out on Devouter Records, and it melds sludge immediacy with post-metallic ambience and caustic tones. The loud parts the loud, the quiet parts are quiet, and every now and then, it seems like someone just punched guitarist/vocalist Mattias Nööjd in the stomach. In a good way.

The band — Nööjd plus drummer Fredrik Käll — have made the whole of Two Titans available to stream, and you’ll find it following the album info below, which came, as ever, down the PR wire:

Two Titans sees the duo deliver sludgy powerful riffs and intense drumming combined with slowed down dark passages. They enable you to go through a full spectrum of emotions then back again. Describing the album, Mattius (singer/guitarist) comments that:

‘All these songs are personal, all the way throughout the record. They are about personal matters and demons. It’s about finding the darkest corners, the dark lord within and to show up for battle.
