ZOM Premiere “Showtime”; Announce New LP Fear and Failure

zom

Pittsburgh heavy rockers and tour veterans of Iceland ZOM will release their second full-length, Fear and Failure, through StoneFly Records on March 11. Vinyl preorders go up the same day ahead of an April 1 arrival. It was two years ago this week that the four-piece announced they were entering the studio with Jason Jouver recording in order to make the follow-up to 2018’s Nebulos (discussed here), which came out on Argonauta, for what would also be their first outing with the lineup of guitarist/vocalist Gero von Dehn, drummer Ben Zerbe, guitarist Matthew Tuite and bassist Sam Pesce.

Obviously it’s been quite a two years since. I have no idea how long the record’s actually been done, but the fact that they’re premiering a track and setting a date certainly brings it to mind as something fresh, and with what I’m hearing in this first cut, the switch from three- to four-piece and the decision to bring in Jouver on production don’t seem to have hurt them. This stuff is easy to dig, and since the intent is to grab attention and leave the listener more, that’s been done and then some.

Song premiere follows, then art and info from the PR wire. You know the drill for the heads-up. So, heads up.

Enjoy:

Zom Fear and Failure

PITTSBURGH, PA STONER-GROOVE, HEAVY ROCKERS, ZOM SIGNS TO STONEFLY RECORDS FOR A WORLDWIDE VINYL RELEASE OF THEIR NEW ALBUM FEAR AND FAILURE ON APRIL 1st 2022

StoneFly Records is stoked to announce the signing of Pittsburgh, PA stoner-groove, heavy rockers, ZOM and look forward to release their sophomore album Fear And Failure on 180g vinyl. This album will be the 3rd album released by StoneFly Records.

Back in February 2021, not that long after I announced my intention of starting a record label, I was approached by Gero von Dehn; he expressed me his vivid desire to work with me for his new album. I must say I was immediately seduced by Fear And Failure! All songs were killers without fillers. Pure classic Stoner/Hard Rock vibes going on! The album even features a cover of Down The Highway by Nebula. It was a no brainer to me and I offered them a contract.

It was back in March of 2020 that the band entered the studio to record Fear And Failure but the pandemic slowed down the completion as well as any release plans they had. The album was recorded and engineered by Steel City go-to, Jason Jouver, at Plus/Minus studios. The album was mixed there and then went to legendary producer, Jack Endino, for mastering in Seattle, WA.

ZOM’S Fear And Failure will release digitally on March 11, 2022.
Vinyl Pre-Order will go live at the same time on March 11, 2022.
Vinyl will release on April 1st, 2022.

No Stone Set to Release Road Into the Darkness Vinyl on Jan. 7

Posted in Whathaveyou on December 3rd, 2021 by JJ Koczan

no stone

Less than a year after releasing the album themselves digitally, Argentina’s No Stone have been picked up by StoneFly Records for a vinyl pressing of their debut, Road Into the Darkness (review here). Cultish and on the rawer end of garage doom, the release nonetheless carried across a melodic focus in its post-Uncle Acid vocal arrangements, and the blend of bare fuzz and ethereal sneer will no doubt come across well suited to the 12″ platter on which it’ll be presented. South American heavy, Argentine heavy, remain undervalued by the gringo underground in general, but anytime you get a Euro label signing a band — in this case, as the imprint’s second release; showing nothing if not priority — it’s worth noting. All the more so here because the record kicks ass and the band aren’t nazis so far as I know.

The release is Jan. 7, like the headline says. StoneFly sent the following down the PR wire:

no stone road into the darkness

OCCULT STONER ROCK/ PSYCHEDELIC DOOM TRIO NO STONE SIGNS TO STONEFLY RECORDS FOR A WORLDWIDE VINYL RELEASE OF THEIR ROAD INTO THE DARKNESS ALBUM ON JANUARY 7 2022

StoneFly Records is thrilled to announce the signing of Rosario, Argentina based trio NO STONE and look forward to release their debut album Road Into The Darkness on 180g vinyl. This album will be the second album released by StoneFly Records. These quarantine made recordings were salvaged from a secret bunker hidden in the heart of Argentina and have been transferred to wax for the collector’s pleasure. Embracing a lo-fi aesthetic, this album will restore your faith in doom or send you to your grave.

In April 2020, NO STONE released a single: “Bewitched” which I very loved. It was only later in February 2021 that I finally heard about NO STONE again. Few friends sent me the link to their album and I was then jumping the feet ahead in this beautiful darkness. I loved the rawness of their sound; maybe something reminiscent of other Argentinian bands like Mephistofeles for example. The overall vibe was crying to me: Uncle Acid. I was seduced by these strong songs filled with these occult stoner proto-metallic riffs; I knew I wanted these guys on my label.

Road Into The Darkness has been recorded during the quarantine with minimalistic means. You can’t expect a studio album here, you gotta embrace the lo-fi aspect of the album in order to appreciate it fully. The vinyl version will offer a different version than the digital one. We worked with Martin Antonsson Productions who re-mixed the whole songs and mastered them for vinyl playback. The goal was to bring more definitions to the songs while keeping their vital essence alive.

Road Into The Darkness channels a dark magic that will please the old horror movie fans. You could easily swap the soundtrack of one of these black and white Hammer’s movies for it and just see fire!

NO STONE’s Road Into The Darkness was digitally released February 13, 2021. The band is a mixture of melodic harmonized vocals with heavy-style riffs with power drums & bass lines, inviting you to enter into their dark psychedelic world inspired by the atmosphere of old horror cult movies.

Tracklisting:
1. Intro
2. Bewitched
3. The Frayed endings
4. Devil Behind
5. Goodbye’s Blues / Put Me In A Hole
6. Shadow No More
7. Road Into The Darkness

NO STONE is:
Pablo Lanziani: Vocals, guitars and synths
Diego Moran: Bass
Maximiliano Fradellin: Drums, Percussion

Paralyzed Sign to New Imprint StoneFly Records; Self-Titled Vinyl out Oct. 15

Posted in Whathaveyou on October 6th, 2021 by JJ Koczan

Preorders are up now for the Tony Reed-remixed/remastered vinyl edition of German vintage heavy rockers Paralyzed‘s debut album. Released digitally by the band earlier this year, the self-titled outing (review here) will mark the first release from new label StoneFly Records, a logical offshoot from StoneFly Effects, who of course are no strangers to bringing the fuzz. The record will be out in two editions, a spotty/swirly one limited to 100 and a stark red that’s 200. Either way, you’ll note that’s not very many for an album that from everything I saw about it was only well received. Release date is Oct. 15, as the headline says.

Really, what you need at this point is the link, right? Well, that’s under the pretty picture of the vinyl below, and if you already know the record and want to skip the rigmarole, you’re forgiven. If you didn’t hear it, the full stream is at the bottom of this post, and there’s plenty to dig into here with the label announcement and full background on the band. As introductions go, it’s a solid one.

Behold:

PARALYZED SELF-TITLED VINYL

HEAVY BLUES/ STONER ROCK QUARTET PARALYZED SIGNS TO STONEFLY RECORDS FOR A WORLDWIDE VINYL RELEASE OF THEIR SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM ON OCTOBER 15 2021.

Preorder link: https://stoneflyrecords.bigcartel.com/

StoneFly Records is privileged to announce the signing of Bamberg, Germany based quartet PARALYZED and look forward to release their self-titled debut album on 180g vinyl. This album will be the very first release made by StoneFly Records and aim to make a remarked entrance in the Heavy Underground world with this flawless album that already stands among the very best of 2021.

In April 2020, PARALYZED released a single: ‘This Woman (Pariah Music Studios Version)’ which I missed out at this moment. So, it was only later in January 2021 that I first heard the PARALYZED self-titled album. It was an instant love matter. I was taken over by the both soulful and powerful vocals that were floating in between Jim Morrison and Danzig. A perfect album where Heavy Blues meets Stoner Rock in a grandiose way. 70’s Hard/Psychedelic Rock influences are pouring out like a liquid fire. At this moment the StoneFly Records project was still at its primary stages. I didn’t felt I was ready to pick up my first band; so, I pitched them to few label mates. Few weeks after, PARALYZED were still unsigned; so I decided to reach them. I deeply wanted PARALYZED on my label.

Here’s a fun fact. Back in 2019, towards the end’s year, I stated that their EP ‘Hidden Sun’ was one of the album that should have been released on wax. This never happened. However 2021 is back with a vengeance!

The self-titled debut album is channeling the magic of the seventies while incorporating proto-doom elements to the whole chemistry. Close your eyes, you’re not only hearing accomplished musician, you are hearing living legends! A sizzling warmness emanates from this album made of dreams.

PARALYZED’s self-titled debut was digitally released January 29, 2021

BAND BIO
PARALYZED is a German rock band from Bamberg, founded in spring 2019. Their retro style incorporating blues rock and stoner rock is compared to bands of the 1970s hard rock era.

The members Michael Binder (guitar and vocals), Caterina Böhner (guitar), Philipp Engelbrecht (bass) and Florian Thiele (drums) were moved by the legacy of giants such as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, and quickly recorded their first EP ’Hidden Sun’ in September 2019.

The result is a unique mixture of Binder’s guitar work with swooping wah solo’s, combined with his powerful vocals. Engelbrecht´s booming, growling bass lines sit just beneath Böhner´s crunching power chords and single note riffs. Additionally, Thiele’s solid, tight and punchy percussion contribute the groove into the live-recorded EP.

ALBUM BACKGROUND

In October 2020 they again entered the studio to record their debut album. They stayed true to their line and relied on the energy of live recording and the spirit of the seventies. Being a breed of 70s Vintage Rock, Heavy Blues and Stoner Rock, this album unites several different influences in itself.

Straight forward rock, dark melancholy paired up with optimistic sounding rock ballads.

Stonefly Records is damn proud to give this album a much needed vinyl treatment. The vinyl edition has been re-mixed and mastered by Tony Reed at HeavyHead Recording Company. We open the doors for the vinyl order on September 10 2021.
