Hippie Death Cult Announce Tour Dates; Welcome New Drummer
Portland, Oregon, trio Hippie Death Cult are preparing to record their next full-length album. It’ll be their third overall, and with a presumed release through Heavy Psych Sounds, it’ll be their second for the label behind 2021’s Circle of Days (review here), for which they’ve toured vigorously. Incidentally, touring is also how they’re getting ready to record, so yeah, it’s kind of been a theme for them since the world opened back up.
Can’t argue. They did the US with Sasquatch in Summer and Europe in Fall 2022, and the latter run would seem to have been the last for drummer Ryan Moore, who they announced yesterday left the band in November, which was directly after that Euro tour wrapped. So it goes. Harry Silvers (also of Robots of the Ancient World) will be stepping into the role, and his doing so marks the second significant change since Circle of Days was released, as the band also bid farewell to frontman Ben Jackson in Fall 2021 and bassist Laura Philips subsequently took over vocal duties beginning with the single “Nice to Know You” (premiered here).
So, whatever Hippie Death Cult actually do on their third LP, it’ll be different than the last one. In any case, I hope we get to find out before the end of the year, but if not, there’s always 2024. And touring:

Harry is an absolute sweetheart of a dude, a monster of a drummer and brings a wealth of high vibrational Rock ‘n’ Roll energy to the band. We couldn’t have asked for a more natural fit and we are extremely excited about the chemistry and sounds we are harnessing together!!
Harry will be taking over on drums for Ryan Moore, who we parted with last November. We wish Ryan the best in his future endeavors and are very grateful for all of the positive contributions he has made to the band over the years, which we will continue to honor.
