Abstract Artimus Premiere “Methuselah’s Rhyme” Animated Video

abstract artimus methuselahs rhyme

Brooklyn-based weirdo rocker/rockers Abstract Artimus — the name applying both to Artimus himself and the trio, like Ozzy — released the single “Methuselah’s Rhyme” in April 2021.I’ve never seen Repo Man, but as a fan of both the Planet of the Apes franchise and Soylent Green and The Omega Man, there’s an awful lot of Will Sanders‘ new video for the track that I recognize, including the hooded, radiation-fallout-afflicted figures and Charlton Heston in a safari jacket. And as the driver myself these days of a Chevy Malibu — which does not glow in the dark, sadly — well, let’s just say I can appreciate that too.

References and Easter eggs abound, as one might expect, and the song itself is pretty straightforward in its structure, catchy and unpretentious, in and out in under four minutes with a clean break at the finish that’s maybe a bit sudden but which brooks no argument. The video is a blast if you know those movies, and if not at least you get to see one of the robe-dudes get eaten by an alligator with human appendages coming off of it that subsequently gets its head ripped off by not-Heston. And yeah, Charlton Heston was a motherfucker. Nobody’s saying he wasn’t. But even ‘Cold Dead Hand Beer’ here is pretty funny, and those movies are great, so if that’s the pill you need to swallow to get into it, could be worse. There’s a lot of assholes out there who made cool movies.

You’ll note that JD Pinkus (Butthole SurfersMelvins, etc.) appears on the song, and that certainly doesn’t hurt either. Do me and yourself a favor, and just try to enjoy and go with it. Bonus points to Sanders for the oldschool Flash animation style. I dig that.

Have fun:

A blast of nostalgia! It really got me remembering being a kid in the 70s and 80s watching those post-apocalyptic movies late at night on TV. Great symbiosis of music and imagery!
