New tunes from a new band. Eschewing broey cosmic-blowout space-metal modernity in favor of an organ-infused, garageier approach to psychedelic rock and roll, Sacred Buzz are set to issue their debut 7″ — a two-songer; classic — on Aug. 28 through Irish weirdo-specialist imprint Fuzzed Up and Astromoon Records. Release show is that same night at 8mm in Berlin. The mini-platter in question, Radio Radiation / Rebel Machine, gives a duly two-sided impression of what Sacred Buzz do, with the five-minute “Radio Radiation” unfurling mellower with a sample before its first verse, kind of a post-punk tension early that holds into the later solo where the drums change it up around the shuffle and the guitar and keys play off each other with deceptive intricacy, and the more immediate just-under-three-minute shove of “Rebel Machine” distorting the echo vocals and displaying the guitar tone from whence one assumes the band’s moniker comes across a succession of sans-pretense verses. It’s raw-ish in the recording, but has enough depth for everybody to get their own space in the mix, and the get-in-get-out efficiency feels purposeful in not overstaying its welcome. Touch of boogie. They make it easy to dig, and the hints toward the character of their songwriting bode well for what I understand is a debut EP to follow this first single at some point in the sooner than later unknown future.

Sacred Buzz is a 4-piece garage psych band from Berlin, Germany. It materialized out of thin air in the hot summer of 2023 and already became known for stirring up Berlin’s psych underground scene with their mesmerizing blend of raw energy, kaleidoscopic patterns and psychedelic rhythm.

Sacred Buzz brews sound elixir on every show in search of the perfect blend. This potion features electrifying drums, face-melting bass, haunting guitar, mesmerizing combo organ drone and distorted lo-fi vocals. One sip and your soul will take a wild ride up to the 13th floor and then back to velvet underground and only the wizard (be it lizard or otherwise) will be able to tell that you are tripping balls.
