Admittedly, my experience with Dirt Pile is pretty limited. The New London, Connecticut, sans-bass three-piece and I crossed paths in August at Wallingford’s Cherry Street Station, where they opened a night that also featured Thunderchief and When the Deadbolt Breaks (review here). Apparently they also know Clamfight. That in itself has been enough for me, historically speaking.

But I did listen to the band’s earlier-2025 six-song EP, Sonic Sewer, both before and after that show — if you’d like to do the same, it’s at the bottom of this post — and found their blend of chugging hardcore aggression and disaffected sludge riffery engaging. And by that I mean vocalist Matthew Hamblin marched back and forth in front of the stage in a way that was both rad and adrenaline-fueled and that kind of also made me think I might get punched standing there. I didn’t, it’s worth pointing out, but you never know, I might’ve gotten away with one there.

Raw Milk, which is set to issue digitally in October and physically on Nov. 8. To-date, Sonic Sewer, which came out in March, is their most substantive offering, and with the promise of five new songs — no word on if there are more and they’re older or what — the band would seem to have their interest in keeping the threads going on crush and mosh alike. Their hometown release show is Nov. 8 at 33 Golden, and they have other local dates booked you can see on their socials, which incidentally is where this (relatively minimal) release announcement comes.
