Danish psychblasters Narcosatánicos will make their debut on Bad Afro Records Nov. 4 with their second album, Body Cults. To herald its arrival, the band has posted a video for the song “Vile” that shows the spaced-out vitality with which they’re working, tripping the light fantastically around molten effects and a wash of noise that seems to intermittently consume everything else around it. In the realm of cosmic rock and roll, it seems fair to think of Narcosatánicos as the thing you land on that you think is a planet but turns out to be a huge space-dwelling life-form that subsequently eats you. Phasers, in other words, will be ineffective in fighting the immersion at hand. You’re gonna have to reroute power to the deflector.

Also, if you’re sensitive to flashing lights, I can only recommend keeping one hand on your mouse, phone, whatever it is on which you’re watching/reading, because invariably you’ll want to scroll away from the actual visuals even as you listen. The clip may well have been shot in Narcosatánicos‘ rehearsal space — reportedly a basement used as a chemical factory in WWII that still registers as radioactive (as one imagines a decent portion of Europe does) — but they do well to give it an otherworldly feel through both sound and lighting, even if the manic changes in the latter can be somewhat taxing on the synapses. Still, well worth the effort to get a feel for the sax-inclusive lysergury being performed in “Vile” itself, which I wouldn’t necessarily count on to represent the whole of Body Cults, but seems like a good place to start.

More info follows the clip below, courtesy of the PR wire. You know the drill.

Enjoy:

Narcosatánicos, “Vile” official video

Narcosatánicos is a noise rock group from Aarhus, Denmark. Formed in early 2012, the cacophonous sextet draws on various influences from late 60’s proto-punk and krautrock to more recent variants of avant-garde and aggressive music.

“Vile” is the first single/video from the second Narcosatánicos album dubbed Body Cults and is due out September 29th 2016 on Bad Afro Records. It may not be reasonable to describe “Vile” as an easy listening but it is the most obliging song on Body Cults and has an oriental flavor. The video for “Vile” is made by Per Silkjær (Fossils/Double Space)
You can listen to Vile on Soundcloud, watch the video on Youtube or download it as Mp3

Body Cults is recorded and mixed at Sonic Studio by Thomas Mee and Victor Kim and the album is mastered by Flemming Rasmuseen at Sweet Silence. The album is set for release November 4th.

Line-up on Vile: Victor Kim (Vocals, Guitar), Tobias Holmbeck (Guitar, Vocals), Kasper Skotte (Guitar), Zeki Jindyl Søgaard (Saxophone, Vocals), Johannes Krøyer (Drums) and Mikkel Stenholt (Bass).

Bad Afro Records Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Posted in Whathaveyou on June 9th, 2016 by JJ Koczan

Congratulations to Bad Afro Records on celebrating the label’s 20th anniversary in 2016. Under normal circumstances, I might not necessarily post about a one-off gig five months from now in Copenhagen, but as it happens I respect the shit out of Bad Afro‘s taste — second to none in an appreciation of forward-thinking-but-still-classically-derived garage and psych rock, as releases from Baby WoodroseTelstar Sound DroneDragontears, Spids Nøgenhat and On Trial can attest — and so the imprint marking two decades seems like a more than worthy occasion.

The show will feature Bad Afro mainstays Baby Woodrose, who have a new record, Freedom, due in September, as well as Telstar Sound Drone, who issued the excellent Magical Solutions to Everyday Struggles (review here) earlier this year, and Narcosatanicos, whose set will also serve as the release show for their debut LP, out Nov. 4. Couldn’t put together a more fitting bill if they tried.

All the best to Bad Afro on 20 years and here’s looking forward:

Bad Afro Records – Time to Party!

20 years of Pushing Scandinavian Rock to the Man! have gone by. Bad Afro Records is no longer a teenager and the anniversary party will take place at Musikloppen at Christania in Copenhagen November 5th. BABY WOODROSE, NARCOSATANICOS and TELSTAR SOUND DRONE are on the bill. Instead of looking back focus will be on the present artists on Bad Afro and all three bands have releases out in 2016.

The second Telstar Sound Drone album Magical Solutions To Everyday Struggles came out in March, the new Baby Woodrose album Freedom is released September 16th while Narcosatanicos will release their first album on Bad Afro November 4th. Narcosatanicos will play a full set since the night will also be the release party for the new album in Copenhagen.

There will be 200 free beers when Loppen opens at 21.00. The first 100 guests will receive a free Baby Woodrose vinyl 7” including the two exclusive tracks Breaking The Spell and ESP. This single will not be available in any record shops or as streaming and will no doubt end up being collectible. Pre-sale tickets are available HERE.

Psy-High 2015 Set for Aug. 13-16

Posted in Whathaveyou on July 6th, 2015 by JJ Koczan

In case you needed a bit of escapism for your afternoon, how’s about four days reveling in heavy rock and psychedelia out in a quarry somewhere out in the Czech Republic? Sounds pretty good to me. I’ll admit I don’t know much about the weather in the Czech Republic in August, but I wouldn’t mind finding out and checking out a bunch of bands I’ve never had the chance to hear before over the course of a leisurely weekend surrounded by cool vibes and heavy sounds. Shit. That’ll do nicely.

Like I said, a bit of escapism. If you happen to be in that part of the world, I submit the following:

psy-high 2015 banner

Psy-High ’15

Psy-High is an arts and culture experience based around the interplay of music, seminars, theatre, debates, readings and workshops. We also give a lot of attention to changing the location as much as possible in accordance with the main themes and concepts of the festival.

We’ll continue the string of amazing locations: Last year’s “rocky cathedral” of the Saint Joseph quarry is followed by a wide, flooded quarry somewhere in the western parts of Czech Republic (we’re still keeping the location a secret for now, but get ready for 13 thousand square meters of five-pointed lake surrounded by seven and a half hectars of awesomeness).

The basics of why and how we make Psy-High happen stay the same: We do everything we can by our own hands, without profit and without sponsors – except for the growing number of people ready to fuel the event with their personal energy.

There are a few changes, however. The big one is that we decided to limit the number of tickets to 400, mainly due to our belief that Psy-High needs a smaller crowd in order to retain it’s unique atmosphere.

The first batch of 100 tickets will be available from May at www.psy-high.cz. From then on, the later you buy a ticket, the more expensive it gets:

The ticket price for the last 100 tickets left is 28 Euro.

In order to get the presale info in time, please consider subscribing to our rather unobtrusive newsletter at http://sdbs.cz/newsletter/, or watch out for news at the Psy-High Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/313590198850496/

The second change worth mentioning is that Psy-High 2015 will increase in length to four full days – two days just wasn’t enough to enjoy the event for most people.

As for music, you can expect a tighter line-up aimed at all kinds of psychedelia-inspired music. There will be more than 30 bands performing at P-H, here’s a small taste:

Kamni (ru, stoner doom)
Ovo (it, doom sludge ritual)
Pozvakowski (hu, exp. noise rock)
Merkabah (pl, avant-garde rock)
Narcosatanicos (dk, acid punk noise rock)
Or (cz, noise rock)
B4 (cz, psychedelic)
Saiga (cz/ru, stoner)
Sweeps04 (cz, ambient industrial doom)
At Bona Fide (cz, shoegaze)
Fetch! (cz, stoner noise rock)
Kidney Trauma (cz, noise-rock/shoegaze)
Lambda
Made by the Fire
White Wigwam
Skrze ?eku
