Electric Valley Festival 2025: Full Lineup Posted for Dec. 5 & 6

Posted in Whathaveyou on September 17th, 2025 by JJ Koczan

Set to take place over the course of Dec. 5 and 6 in Cagliari and Ossi, in Sardinia, the Electric Valley Festival is put together at the behest of the label of the same name. Electric Valley Records has been a home to many cult, doom and stonerized underground outfits for well over a decade, and of the 10 acts confirmed to appear, the only ones without releases listed on the imprint’s Bandcamp page (linked below, also here) are Tons, Indigosaur and Crobu, and maybe I should just add “yet” there to be safe. You never know how it might all pan out.

What’s striking about the bill though is the sense of tone and riff worship that come through so plainly. Tons and Stonus and 1782 lead a charge of dark and gritty riffing that’s Sabbathian of course at its foundation, but that has committed itself to exploring atmospheres, stoned, ritualistic, or if you’re lucky, both. I’m making the narrowminded assumption that if you’re going or thinking of going to this maybe-seventh edition of the fest (going by the VII on the poster below; find it like Waldo), you’re either already familiar with the label and the bands or you’re planning to be by the time you show up to either of the night.

About that. Knowing nothing of Sardinian geography, I looked up Cagliari to Ossi and it’s about a two-and-a-half-hour drive south, cutting through a good portion of the island of Sardinia. If it seems nuts to think of flying to a place, going to a show, renting a car and driving basically the whole way across the island for the next night, consider how much of Sardinia you’ll have seen by the time you get to Ossi. You could do far worse, is what I’m saying.

The following confirmations came from social media:

Spaceship Landing Kyuss Tribute Announced

Posted in Whathaveyou on August 15th, 2025 by JJ Koczan

A litany of familiar names playing a litany of familiar tunes, Spaceship Landing: A Tribute to Kyuss is a fairly straightforward concept. Rather than the Magnetic Eye-style ‘redux’ model, the compilation of mostly European bands put together at the behest of Witching Buzz follows the oldschool pattern of more ‘greatest hits’-style selections. I don’t know how many of these songs are exclusive or not, but from Fuzz Evil and Abel Blood to Rhino and King Howl, it’s an assemblage 20-strong put together to honor the band largely credited with defining desert rock for the rest of us mortals out here on the scorched earth.

So like I said, an easy enough concept to grasp. Slated for a Halloween release. The PR wire has it like this:

A Global Homage to the Godfathers of Desert Rock

The legacy of KYUSS – the pioneers of desert rock and the spiritual fathers of stoner metal – echoes endlessly across generations and continents. Now, over two decades after their final ride into the sonic sunset, a legion of underground bands unites to pay respect in a massive, fuzz-drenched tribute.

“Spaceship Landing: A Tribute to KYUSS” will be released October 31, 2025 by Witching Buzz and features 21 bands from across the globe, each offering a thunderous reimagining of a KYUSS classic. This is not just a tribute – it’s a worldwide celebration of riff worship, sand-blasted psych, and raw desert energy.

With each band offering their own sonic twist while honoring the spirit of KYUSS, Spaceship Landing is a must-listen for desert dwellers, fuzz fanatics, and anyone who’s ever felt the low-end rumble of the California sandstorms in their soul.

Raise your amps. Board the spaceship. KYUSS lives.

Loose Sutures to Release Self-Titled Debut March 27

Posted in Whathaveyou on March 3rd, 2020 by JJ Koczan

So let’s assume that Loose Sutures formed with a pretty healthy idea of what they wanted to do as a band. Their self-titled debut full-length, which is out later this month on Electric Valley Records, arrives only months after the group formed in June 2019. And seeing as it’s nine songs, plus five that are listed as interludes and one of which is a cover, that still hardly seems like enough time to even write them all, let alone record them, but I think if you listen to either of the streaming tracks from the record below — one of which is the aforementioned cover — you can kind of get the feel that the Sardinian four-piece are trying to keep things as to-the-point as possible. I haven’t heard the full album yet, but I’ll be interested to hear how the interludes complement the broader tracks.

The PR wire brings the album info:

LOOSE SUTURES: Sardinian fuzzy heavy/garage rockers share new track; self-titled LP sees release this month via Electric Valley Records

Loose Sutures’ self-titled debut album comes on 27th March 2020 via Electric Valley Records. Depicting killer profiles and kinky love stories, this album contains nine tracks (including a cover version of The Laughing Dogs’ “I Need a Million”) and 5 interludes. The track “Lie” features additional guitar contributions from the legendary Trevor Peres (from Obituary).

Formed in June 2019, Loose Sutures is a razor-sharp four-headed machine with lots of evil beats, killer fuzz, and unhealthy lyrics. These 4 Sardinian roughnecks play classic ’70s riffs with a pinch of modern punk attitude, conveying a blend of stoner and garage energy with the spirits of Fuzz, Blue Cheer, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and The Stooges.

The self-titled debut album will be released on Red Vinyl, 50x LTD Marbled Red/Black Vinyl, 25x Ultra LTD “Murder Edition,” and Digital formats via Electric Valley Records.

Recorded: RKS Studios, Sardinia (Italy)
Mixed and Mastered: Alfredo Carboni

Upcoming Shows:
06/19 – Electric Valley Festival in Ossi, Sardinia, Italy
