There are only 50 copies of Ruidoteka Records‘ new box set Almarium, comprising the two to-date full-lengths from Spokane, Washington’s Kadabra, 2021’s Ultra (review here) and 2023’s Umbra (review here). 50. I don’t know how many of them are already gone, but the Argentinian label has eight left as of this writing, and given the material in question, I wouldn’t expect them to last.

Kadabra‘s two LPs, originally released through Heavy Psych Sounds, were a highlight of the first half of the 2020s. The three-piece of guitarist/vocalist Garrett Zanol, bassist Ian Nelson and drummer Chase Howard captured a version of garage doom that was their own both in songwriting and in its psychedelic edge. Howard has since left the band, and I don’t know their current status, but especially on Umbra, they showed themselves with a distinctive approach to proto-heavy riffs and a penchant for memorable hooks. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping for a third record that has yet to materialize.
