Let’s say it’s Monday morning. The mere thought of facing the entire week ahead has you enraged. Maybe you’re hungover, or just tired from having spent a late night paying homage to a fallen New York stoner rocker. Maybe you’ve got a to-do list full of menial, boring shit that you want no part of, and the gray in your mind is only matched by that of the outside world, as though the climate of northern New Jersey was reacting to the fog of your mood with a fog of its own drawn like a curtain outside the window of your office. Like you’re friggin’ Storm or something, only less Halle Berry and more overweight balding doomer.

Purely hypothetical situation. Not talking about anyone in particular here.

Well, along come Gurt, checking in from London with a new video for the title-cut from their earlier-2012 You Ain’t from around These Parts EP. The UK foursome — seen in fun-loving spirit above — seem to give form to exactly that formless combination of exhaustion, foreboding, anger and all-around wretchedness. Best of all, they make it groove. The video itself ain’t much, unless you’ve got a thing for old Disney cartoons or dancing skeletons in general, but I’ve been through it twice this morning and suddenly the sun is coming out, so there you go. It’s even better with an excessive amount of coffee.

If you’ve never heard them before, GURT‘s trailer for their new EP, You Ain’t from around These Parts?, might not be the best introduction, since there’s no music in it, but for a self-releasing band, the packages the London four-piece have put together are still pretty in-depth. You may remember the band from their split with Dopefight, and to give some better sense of their sound, I’ve included the video for the track “Soapfeast” from that release below.
