Weather Systems Announce May 2025 European & UK Tour

The post-Anathema project of Daniel Cavanagh, Weather Systems will spend much of this coming May on tour in the UK and Europe supporting their debut album, Ocean Without a Shore (review here). The record, which you can hear below if you haven’t caught it yet — I know you have, but for everyone else — is purposefully continuing the thread where Anathema left off, but with Cavanagh working in what seems like a pretty deep collaboration with drummer/producer Daniel Cordoso, there’s a new dynamic taking shape as well.
It’s not a minor listen in terms of attention or the emotional commitment required to keep up with the music, but the heft they in with the nine-minute lead cut “Synaesthesia” is nastier in tone than anything Anathema produced since the turn of the century, so it’s not without its enticements either for listeners new or old, even if it sets up a hell of a task for itself in carrying on that band’s legacy in playing off songs like “Are You There” or the “Untouchable” duology.
But that’s fair ground for Cavanagh, to be sure, and I didn’t hear anything in Ocean Without a Shore that disrespected what Anathema was or their fans, even as it reached into some new ideas around that, maybe taking advantage of stepping at least partially aside from the immediate expectations otherwise born of being an established brand sound-wise. The tour is most of May, as you can see in the poster. The band’s social post accompanies:
