Cloud Catcher to Hit Studio in Spring 2016

Posted in Whathaveyou on November 12th, 2015 by JJ Koczan

With their earlier-2015 debut full-length, Enlightened Beyond Existence, Denver trio Cloud Catcher unfurled and engaging blend of progressive and heavy rock impulses. The Mile High band finished a West Coast tour a couple weeks back, and with that fresh in their minds, they’ve announced intentions toward a sophomore outing.

Enlightened Beyond Existence was tracked by Jamie Hillyer at Module Overload Studios, but the next Cloud Catcher LP will be helmed by Cody Tarbell, also known as the drummer of CA classic heavy rockers Slow Season. How that will play into the overall sound of the new album of course remains to be seen, but we know from that band’s late-2014 outing, Mountains (review here) that Tarbell prefers to work analog and is readily capable of producing natural-sounding material in that context.

Cloud Catcher will join their fellow Denver natives Abrams for a Volcom and 303 Boards-sponsored show on Nov. 19, and their announcement about the new recording — which is slated for next spring — comes couple with a suitable amount of hashtags. Because it’s 2015 and hashtags are a thing people do. #thingspeopledo.

We’re stoked to announce that we will be recording our follow up album to #EnlightenedBeyondExistence this spring! A huge thanks is to be given to @skitchpatterson from @slowseasonmusic for being so righteous and offering to record us. Cody, in our opinion, captures our live performance perfectly so working with him was an obvious decision. 2 songs have already been recorded to tape, and we are currently working on a few more. Thank you all for the support, and stay heavy!!! #denverisheavier #cloudcatcher #cosmicheavyrock photo by @cobra_killa

Cloud Catcher Announce Oct. Tour Dates

Posted in Whathaveyou on August 10th, 2015 by JJ Koczan

Denver heavy three-piece Cloud Catcher impressed earlier this year with their debut full-length, Enlightened Beyond Existence, and as it happens, they’re now taking preorders for a vinyl version of the album, which they’re releasing on Far Out Man Records. Playing deep into Captain Beyond-style prog, the record did not at all forget the “rock” side of that equation, and struck a resounding balance that was doubly engaging for being their first time out.

They’ll hit the road on the West Coast in Oct. to celebrate the vinyl release. Info and dates follow, as seen on the PR wire:

Hey, friends! So our debut album “Enlightened Beyond Existence” has just been sent to the record plant and we are expecting to have them the 3rd week of September. These records are being pressed in a limited batch of 250 so get yours ASAP! We plan on sending them out on the FIRST WEEK OF OCTOBER which is one week before we start our west coast tour. Purchase your pre-order today and expect to see a goodie or two in the package! Thank you all for the support, and we look forward to tearing up your town!

‘Enlightened Beyond Existence’ channels the essence of early 70’s-era hard rock, yet propels it so far beyond orbit, transmuting it with astral brilliance. Cloud Catcher resonates to those who worship heavy acts such as Captain Beyond, early Grand Funk Railroad, Spirit Caravan, and Earthless. The trio summons thick, fuzz-laiden, mountainous riffs, sub earthly jams, and the long lost art of guitar solos which unite in crushing harmony. Cloud Catcher has received the esoteric “cosmic nod” and is unrelentingly wielding it in an attempt to pry open the mind’s eye of collective consciousness. Be forewarned…

Cloud Catcher on tour:
Oct. 17th Denver, CO – Hi Dive
Oct. 18th Co Springs, CO – Flux Capacitor
Oct. 20th Sierra Vista, AZ – Jr’s Bar
Oct. 22nd San Diego, CA – Til Two Club

Cloud Catcher Release Debut Album Enlightened Beyond Existence

Posted in Whathaveyou on June 8th, 2015 by JJ Koczan

It’s out now in that way that records come out before they’re released. You know what I mean. Digitally. Think of it as a months-ahead-of-time heads up that there’s gonna be some cool shit on vinyl for which you’ll want to save your pennies. Denver trio Cloud Catcher make a jamming, heavy psych rolling and still strikingly progressive debut with Enlightened Beyond Existence taking some cues from the ’70s-obsessed West Coast skater set, but injecting a bit of purpose behind all that swing. They call it Captain Beyond influence and I’m not inclined to disagree, but there’s more to it than just that, and for being their debut, Enlightened Beyond Existence is striking in just how firm in its intent and execution it sounds.

As for living up to the title? Well, we’ll call it aspirational for the time being, but one listen to “Electric Ritual” and it’s pretty plain Cloud Catcher are about expanding some minds. They posted on Friday for streaming, and you can check it out under the release info below. Look out as the rest of 2015 goes on for the vinyl on their Far Out Man Records imprint and some West Coast tour dates that hopefully will be the start of a long and far-ranging stretch on the road.

Descending from within Denver’s Rocky Mountains, Cloud Catcher have arrived. The trio consisting of Rory Rummings on guitar and vocals, Kam Wentworth on bass, and Jared Soloman Handman on drums have spent considerable time crafting their own brand of heavy cosmic rock. Cloud Catcher’s riff driven and energy fueled performances have landed them the opportunity to have shared the stage with such notable acts as Lecherous Gaze, Joy, Ape Machine, Black Pussy, Lord Dying, and many more. In 2015, their debut album, ‘Enlightened Beyond Existence’ released on their very own Far Out Man Records label, had caught the attention of the local Colorado heavy music scene. The album exhibits some of the finest heavy rock and roll submerged in psychedelia this side of the Andromeda Galaxy.
