DesertFest Belgium 2014: Colour Haze, 1000mods, Death Alley and More Added to Lineup

Posted in Whathaveyou on September 18th, 2014 by JJ Koczan

You know, the thing about DesertFest Belgium 2014 is that, if you look at the poster, it’s like every logo on the damn thing should be huge. Colour HazeBlues PillsYOB, Toner LowBrant Bjork, ConanPallbearer? Seriously, what, is everyone headlining? I know there are some bands on there who aren’t necessarily as huge as the likes of Electric Wizard, but thus far, the inaugural Belgian edition of the DesertFest has over 40 bands, and there isn’t a dud in the bunch. If you were putting on a show with half as many killer acts, I’d want to know about it.

Barring a fiscal miracle, I’ve got no hope of getting over to see this festival, but still it’s worth the daydream while I kick around in my jammies and dwell on the thought of seeing Colour Haze again, or Death Alley — who were awesome at Roadburn this year — or 1000mods, and on and on. Good times.

Here’s the latest from the fest and the stream of Death Alley‘s debut single (review here), in case you missed it:

Steak Added to Desertfest Belgium 2014 Lineup

Posted in Whathaveyou on May 21st, 2014 by JJ Koczan

Set to release their debut LP on Napalm Records this September, the dudely dudes in London heavy rockers Steak have been announced as the latest addition to the formidable lineup of the first Desertfest Belgium, set for Oct. 10-12 in Antwerp. They join a cast of some of the heaviest heavy, with Electric Wizard, YOB, Pallbearer and All Them Witches accounted for and presumably more to come, but it all seems to be part of Steak‘s plan for global domination, as the four-piece drop hints in the PR wire info below of further Euro touring this fall in addition to the dates they already have lined up with Swedish rock masters Greenleaf.

Get yourself informed so you know when and how they’re coming for you:

STEAK confirmed to play Desertfest Belgium 2014

London’s finest stoner rockers STEAK are confirmed for the first edition of Desertfest Belgium in Antwerp, along with Electric Wizard, Yob, Brant Bjork, Kadavar and many more.

Within two years, STEAK have established themselves as one of the British stoner rock scene’s most satisfying acts. Following the sandy steps of their American elders Kyuss or Fu Manchu, STEAK’s music is driven by ballsy riffs and contagious grooves, tinged with moments of pure cosmic escapism.

After their two critically acclaimed EPs Disastronaught and Corned Beef Colossus and a serie of successful gigs across Spain, France, Switzerland and the UK, the fuzzy foursome flew out to Palm Springs’ very own Thunder Underground studio this winter to record their first full-length record, due out on September 4th via Napalm Records.

The album was produced by Harper Hug (Vista Chino, Brant Bjork, Nick Oliveri) and co-produced by Unida’s guitarist Arthur Seay, and will feature guest vocals from desert rock legend John Garcia. Before going on a full European tour this fall, Steak will hit the stage of the first Desertfest Belgium edition to introduce their new tunes to the crowd. Not to be missed!

The band will also play UK’s brand new music event ALT-FEST, as well as a couple of gigs to support the release of their first full-length, due out September 4th via NAPALM RECORDS.

Desertfest Belgium 2014 Announced for October

Posted in Whathaveyou on April 23rd, 2014 by JJ Koczan

Rumors have been kicking around for a while of Desertfest extending its brand and its reach beyond the confines of London and Berlin. No reason not to, when you think about it. Heavy rock is universal, and there’s really no pocket of Planet Earth where it doesn’t make sense, sonically if not geologically. Even as Desertfest 2014 gets ready to launch this weekend in its two home cities with the likes of Clutch and Spirit Caravan headlining in Berlin while Spirit Caravan, Boris and Kvelertak treat the London crowd to what’s what, the announcement has come through that the fall will bring Desertfest Belgium 2014 — the first incarnation of the festival beyond its initial two locales.

And not only does Desertfest Belgium 2014 exist, but it exists in a big way. Electric Wizard are confirmed to headline — they’ll likely have a new album out by then, having recently inked a licensing deal with Spinefarm — and Swiss instrumentalists Monkey3 and Nashville psychedelic blues upstarts All Them Witches have been added, the latter who will arrive in Europe for the first time after playing Scion Rock Fest in May on the heels of 2013’s stellar Lightning at the Door full-length. That Desertfest Belgium 2014 would start out with such an eclectic and far-reaching lineup only bodes well for what’s to come as more bands are added. Here’s looking forward.

Desertfest Belgium 2014 is set for Oct. 10-12 at Trix in Antwerp. Preliminary info and links follow below, hoisted from the fest’s Thee Facebooks:
