Buried Feather Post “Nuclear Suzi” Video; Cloudberry Dreamshake out Next Month

Garage buzz, psychedelic gaze and all the drift you could ask for — plus a hook. I guess by now Australia is starting to come out of its winter just a little bit — such as seasons still exist anywhere — but to me, Buried Feather‘s new single, “Nuclear Suzi,” sounds right on the money for the end of summer. The track communes with a 1965-’66 psychaesthetic, but treats the style as though it emerged fully formed from out of a cocoon, rather than grew into its enduringly lysergic self. Tones are sopping wet and not exactly retro, but especially in the context of the video, there’s a classic-promo-clip vibe that pervades visually and enhances that feel in the music. It’s almost like the senses are intertwined or something. Go melt your brain.

“Nuclear Suzi” is the second track to be offered up from Buried Feather‘s forthcoming long-player, Cloudberry Dreamshake — a garage rock title if e’er I heard one — and it follows the prior-posted “Lightning Hands,” which I’ve included at the bottom of the post (or near it, anyhow) just in case you need to get caught up. That song has a little bit more of a push, which perhaps accounts for the “shake,” but there’s plenty of “dream” in it as well, and I don’t know what a cloudberry tastes like, but screw it; did I mention go melt your brain?

Buried Feather seem to have pared down to a trio since they put out Mind of the Swarm in 2017, but after touring Europe last year, they don’t seem to be lacking for any kind of sonic expansion. This is a cool one, and the video rules as well, so I’ll keep it simple in the hope that you actually watch the damn thing if you’re still reading this. If not, well, go melt your brain, I guess.

Enjoy:

Buried Feather Announce European Tour Dates

Posted in Whathaveyou on July 23rd, 2018 by JJ Koczan

buried feather

You’d have to take it up with Kozmik Artifactz and Cobra Snake Necktie Records as to whether or not Buried Feather‘s third LP will be out by the time the Melbourne, Australia, outfit hit Dresden on Sept. 5 to begin their first-ever European tour, which will consume most of the rest of that month — plus some days off presumably for sightseeing — but it seems like a good bet they’ll probably be playing some new material on the road. If you managed to put their 2017 sophomore album, Mind of the Swarm, in your eardrums, you know that’s something to look forward to. If you didn’t manage to do that, it’s streaming at the bottom of this post, so by no means too late.

Either way, right on for the band getting out. Their self-titled debut was recently reissued via the two labels mentioned above, who’ll also be standing behind the new release, and I’ll hope to have more to come on that as we get closer to an announced arrival date, etc. in the meantime, the dates follow here, courtesy of the PR wire:

buried feather euro tour

Australian acid-rockers Buried Feather are bringing their hypnotic live show to Europe for the very first time.

The tour follows the recent reissue of their swirling debut Buried Feather and the space-rocking fuzz of last year’s Mind of the Swarm (named one of the year’s best albums by Jus Oborn of Electric Wizard). The band’s third full-length is planned for release in late 2018.

Buried Feather’s live shows have drawn regular comparison to Dead Meadow and Spacemen 3. The tour will be wind through clubs in Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Switzerland.

Buried Feather to Release Mind of the Swarm Feb. 10 on Kozmik Artifactz

Posted in Whathaveyou on November 25th, 2016 by JJ Koczan

Squares take heed! Melbourne psych rockers Buried Feather leave no edges un-rounded on their second album, Mind of the Swarm! Announced today and set for release via respected purveyor Kozmik Artifactz and Cobra Snake Necktie Records on Feb. 10, 2017, the follow-up to the trio’s 2013 self-titled debut is a get-lost-in-it wash of post-gaze heavy wash, gorgeously laden in effects, upbeat when it needs to be — looking at you, “Sunshine” — and immersive in the extreme. Shades of Dead Meadow‘s tonal depth will be recognizable to those who’ve spent time inhabiting that particular semi-garage, but with the electronics of “Screen Dreamer” and “Endless C” and the early dreamscaping of lead-single “Dust” and the subsequent “The Stranger,” Buried Feather do plenty to make their influences their own as well.

More to come as we get closer to the release, I hope. Until then, you can stream “Dust” below, and I would suggest that you do, perhaps while perusing the following info from the PR wire:

Buried Feather announce new album “Mind of the Swarm”

With a sound built on fuzzy drone and swirling keyboards, Buried Feather’s live shows have built a loyal following, drawing regular comparisons to Dead Meadow and Spacemen 3. Their 2013 debut album was a woozy, atmospheric affair that was well loved on community radio right around Australia. The band toured regularly behind the record, including shows with NYC’s Endless Boogie and San Diego psych-metal titans Earthless.

Buried Feather are set to release their second full-length, Mind of the Swarm, out this February through Melbourne indie label Cobra Snake Necktie Records as well as the German stoner-rock imprint Kozmik Artifactz. Recorded by Paul Maybury (King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard) and mixed by Nick Franklin (The Grates, Deep Sea Arcade), the new record is a more dynamic realisation of the band’s hypnotic sound. First single “Dust” finds them solidly in kosmische territory, with a head-rush of phased guitars swirling around a locked groove. The record throws up some interesting surprises, with druggy rave-ups and dark, synth-driven slow jams sitting alongside the fuzzy rock tunes.

Mind of the Swarm will be available digitally on 10 February 2017 and on limited 180gm vinyl through Cobra Snake Necktie Records (Australia) and Kozmik Artifactz (Europe).
