Buss Premiere ‘Live at Dežolation Fest’ Video

buss dezolation fest

Trieste, Italy, raw heavy rock three-piece Buss are currently at work on their full-length debut, impending for next year. That’s good news for anyone who heard their self-titled EP (review here) last year and thought to themselves they could do with more. I count myself in that number. It was right on earlier this year when they posted a couple live songs filmed on what looked like a nice patio, and the clip below for the Leaf Hound cover “Freelance Fiend” and the band’s own new song “Astrosatan,” filmed at Dežolation Fest follows in a similar spirit.

Don’t know Dežolation Fest? Well, the narrative — blessings and peace upon it — is that Buss threw a big ol’ party about a month ago, and the video would seem to prove it worked out. Buss play on a small bare-wood stage lit by floodlights in the dusky evening that would be night by the time they’re done, and sure enough there are people there, outside among the trees. “Freelance Fiend” is already in progress as the video fades in, and “Astrosatan” has a darker riff, standing it for an additional element of proto-metal amid the boogie and ’70s rock vibes.

It looks like a good time. A lot does at this point, right? Let’s assume if you’re reading this, you weren’t there for this, so maybe it’s that much easier to consider it the embodiment of a certain ideal. Show up and play. Think of generator parties in abandoned desert skate parks. Think of forest-fests throughout Europe, some official in the sense of having any permits whatsoever, some decidedly not. I don’t know where Buss‘ to-do fell on that particular scale, but kudos to them for making a thing happen one way or the other, and further, for filming at least part of their set to give a teaser for their upcoming debut. I’ll be looking forward to hearing that.

Until then, enjoy the clip:

Buss, Live at Dežolation Fest 2021

Sick of silence, Buss & friends had organized the first edition of the Dežolation Fest. Lot of beer, awesome grill, great music and good people had transformed an empty field into a memorable land.

Here for you Buss live at Dežolation Fest performing Freelance Fiend by Leaf Hound and Astrosatan from the upcoming album.

Buss is a trio influenced by 70s underground sounds and 90s desert rock. We met in high school and started playing together just for fun.

Later we started writing some songs and performing live gigs. In May 2020 the band released the self-titled debut EP with the support from Rocket Panda Management.

Buss are now recording new stuff for their first LP that will be out in 2022, followed by an EU tour.

Buss Premiere ‘Live Under the Grape’ Video

Posted in Bootleg Theater on January 12th, 2021 by JJ Koczan

buss live under the grape

You got 12 minutes to watch some kids rock out like Stooges-gone-West-Coast-fuzz? Sure you do. What are doing that’s so damn important? Apparently sometime last summer, brash trio Buss — who released their self-titled EP (review here) in May — decided to get together and play. No shows, of course, so they made their own. They’re outside, it’s sunny, warm, under a tree that may or may not indeed be a big-ass grape vine, and with an old boombox by their side, a couple cameras to swap between and a beer on bassist Erik Carpani‘s Orange amp, they just hit it with the first two tracks of the EP. A band, playing songs. Could hardly be more straightforward, right?

Sure, save for the context in which ‘Live Under the Grape’ arrives. I don’t know whose house that is they’re playing in front of, but given the volume they unleash one hopes the neighbors were down to jam. Perhaps, after several months of hard quarantine, they too were ready for whatever glimpse of a gig they could get. Maybe after the cameras stopped it turned into an impromptu and safely-socially-distant block party, everybody out on their porch cracking a beer and toasting each other from far away. Okay, maybe not, but Buss still rip into “Liars” and “TV Show” and if you’ve got a problem with that, I doubt it’d give the band much pause at all. From what I can see here, they seem pretty happy just to be jamming on the songs.

Rightfully so. I’ll spare you the group-creativity-is-a-treasure-during-a-pandemic spiel, but obviously the same applies. I’ve never been to Trieste, Italy, but it’s no stretch to imagine hitting up a show and watching Buss have the kind of infectious fun that vibes all the way through here. So yeah, you’ve got 12 minutes for that. Sorry for your day if you don’t.

Enjoy:

Buss, ‘Live Under the Grape’ official video premiere

BUSS – Live under the grape

Tracklist:
Liars (00:00-6:13)
TV show (6:23-12:15)

Recorded in a hot and sweaty summer afternoon. Listen with the volume cranked up!

We’d had thirst for live performance, so we decided to organise one! No tricky stuff: just loud amps, cold beer and some good friends. Ivan the drummer, provided some basic recording equipment he wanted to try. So this is our first improvised recording; At a old, dusty, and moldy house, the best location for a wild party. We had an amazing time, playing together: we really were on fire, just like our amps. The mix of booze and (too) high volumes continued until early morning hours for the happiness of the beloved neighbours.

Mixed by Alessandro Perosa @Track Terminal Studio

Released with the support from Rocket Panda Management

Buss Stream Self-Titled EP in Full; Out This Friday

Posted in audiObelisk on May 7th, 2020 by JJ Koczan

buss

Italian trio Buss will release their self-titled debut EP tomorrow, May 8. The band — who are not to be confused with Bus, from Greece — tap into raw ’70s fervor with nods along the way to The Stooges, Motörhead, a Leaf Hound cover and some of the more raucous end of the late-’90s stoner movement; the press info cites Nebula specifically and I’m inclined to agree, if perhaps that influence is filtered down through countrymen purveyors Black Rainbows. One way or the other, Buss get you there with five tracks of high-energy swagger and shove, dirty bass rumbling under dirty guitar propelled by dirty drums topped off with vocals that, if you listen hard enough, you can hear just how young the band is beneath the rougher edge. Kids shouting into cheap microphones recording noise onto a four-track? Shit yeah. That sounds like rock and roll to me.

Buss‘ Buss runs a no-nonsense 21 minutes, and as guitarist Patrik Pregarc shows some solo soul in “TV Show” as bassist Erik Carpani and drummer Ivan Kralj lock in abuss buss ep crash-wash jam beneath, the track goes far out and makes no attempt to come back, instead coming apart ahead of the shorter, speedier “Electric Eye,” arguably the most proto-punk of the bunch, though the oomph of opener “Liars” remains present in terms of tonality. The centerpiece, “Electric Eye” is a stomper and a rager and all that other stuff that means it’s a 2:53 party in a can, but though we’re talking raw demo stuff in terms of sound — someone, anyone, please put this on cassette and send me one — at least two things come through plainly: these guys are having a great time, and they can play. For a first EP from a young, self-releasing band, if you’re looking for more than that, you’re probably off base.

But if you are, Buss hint toward emerging dynamics throughout, whether it’s the shift in approach between “TV Show” and “Electric Eye” or the down-the-highway groove of “Flying Lady” and the capper take on Leaf Hound‘s “Stagnant Pool,” the vibe of which could hardly fit better alongside the preceding four originals. Free of pretense, old enough to be new again and evidence of a next-generation take on the continual evolution classic/vintage heavy rock finding its path in Europe’s underground — see also the Netherlands’ Supersonic Blues and The Ballet Bombs, among others from elsewhere — Buss are brash and brazen and they waste no time on their first EP letting the listener know where they’re coming from. The potential is there in the bluesy jam of “Stagnant Pool.” Okay boys. Now what?

Can they carry it across to an album? I’m not sure they’re there yet, but it would suit the character of the EP if they said screw it and rolled out a killer one anyhow. For what it’s worth, I don’t think they’ve laid out all their stylistic cards on these tracks, but there’s plenty to dig about what they’re showing, and the overarching sneer in their sound is something that heavy rock, especially of the ’70s-style, has been missing. Does anyone remember how arrogant Grand Funk Railroad were? Clearly Buss do. Right on.

EP is streaming in full below and, again, is out tomorrow. Preorder here: https://bussband1.bandcamp.com/releases

Please enjoy:

The Buss self-titled EP has the task to carry you back to the 70s underground rock scene.

Recorded with a 4 track tape recorder, brings to the overall sound a real vintage flavour. A rad muscled mix that goes from Grand Funk Railroad and MC5 to Nebula and the new heavy psych wave. They sound old but they talk about the present. In the songs you can find more different themes, from smartphone addiction to bad human feelings such as the desire for fame, and many more. All the tracks are original except the Stagnant Pool cover from the mighties Leaf Hound.

Buss EP will see the light on May 8th digitally with digipak CD to follow, always with the support from Rocket Panda Management.
