The Shrine Confirmed for South American Tour

Posted in Whathaveyou on July 15th, 2016 by JJ Koczan

Cali heavy skate rockers The Shrine will head to South America later this month for a round of dates in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. It will be the band’s second trip abroad of the year in support of their latest album and Century Media debut, Rare Breed, behind a European run this Spring that found them taking part in Freak Valley as well as making other festival appearances and so on. They’ll be doing fests in South America as well, including the Abraxas Skate Jam, put on by Abraxas Events, which is also promoting the tour, on Aug. 3 in Rio de Janeiro.

No question dudes get their work in. Show poster, dates and links follow, courtesy of Abraxas:

THE WOLF GOES TO SOUTH AMERICA!

The Shrine will play 9 gigs in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, including the 22nd annual edition of Goiania Noise Fest, the oldest and one of the most important rock festivals in Brazil, performing in the main stage a few slots earlier than heavy metal legends Sepultura.

Abraxas will also promote the first edition of its new concept festival called Abraxas Skate Jam, in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, with The Shrine and some local acts playing loud rock and roll while skateboarders show their skills! The jams will take place at Cavepool (São Paulo) and Praça do Ó (Rio de Janeiro) skateparks. Best trick contests will grant the winners some special Volcom prizes, as well as kegs of the finest local craft beers Sheep Killer and Hocus Pocus and a lot of band and Abraxas merch!

Stoned Jesus Touring South America Next Week

Posted in Whathaveyou on May 4th, 2016 by JJ Koczan

Ukrainian heavy rockers Stoned Jesus recently finished out a tour of Spain and France alongside Bordeaux’s Mars Red Sky. The Kiev trio are still supporting 2015’s The Harvest (review here), though a recent reissue of their 2011 EP, Stormy Monday, isn’t a bad excuse to get out either. In any case, the oft-traveling three-piece will head to South America for the first time this month for a run of shows in Chile, Argentina and Brazil, playing some gigs alongside Saturndust, soon to record a new album of their own with Gabriel Zander of Estudio Superfuzz. Of course, the tour is put on by Abraxas Events.

You might recall Stoned Jesus were slated to make their New World debut last summer at Psycho California, but were held up on visa issues. This year, in addition to a couple shows in Greece at the end of this month, they’re slated to perform in France at Hellfest in June and at SonicBlast Moledo in August, among others I’m sure that have been and are still to be announced.

Poster for the Sao Paolo show by Victor Bezzera and the full roster of dates for the tour follow here, courtesy of Abraxas:

This is the first time Stoned Jesus come to the Americas, and first time starting from the South! They were supposed to play Psycho California last year but they got some trouble with their visas and the US tour never happened.

Below the list of dates:
8/5 – Santiago @ Club Rock y Guitarras
10/5 – Buenos Aires @ The Roxy Live
11/5 – Córdoba @ Casa Babylon
13/5 – Rio de Janeiro @ Teatro Odisséia
14/5 – São Paulo @ Inferno Club
15/5 – Florianópolis @ Célula Showcase

Stoned Jesus is:
Igor Sydorenko – vocals, guitars, Hammond organ, occasional keyboards and percussion
Sergii Sliusar – bass, FX, drummachine, backing vocals
Viktor Kondratov – drums, percussion, backing vocals

The Flying Eyes Announce South American Tour

Posted in Whathaveyou on February 22nd, 2016 by JJ Koczan

the flying eyes

Word on the street is that Baltimore heavy psych rockers The Flying Eyes — who are damn near statesmen at this point from the miles they’ve covered touring worldwide, though I’ve my doubts any of them are 30 — will do some recording when they make their return to South America next month. As in, for a follow-up to their 2013 third record, Lowlands (review here). That’s unquestionably good news, and since the tour winds up in Rio de Janeiro, which just happens to be where Gabriel Zander and Estudio Superfuzz are located, it seems like a safe bet that’s where they’ll go, which if you’re familiar with records Zander has helmed for the likes of Mars Red Sky, you know is also unquestionably good news.

And if all that positivity is too much for you, don’t worry, I’m sure whatever comes out of the sessions will be plenty bluesy. Announcement from Abraxas Events and tour dates follow, as dutifully scoured from the internets:

the flying eyes south america tour

We are pleased to announce the return of friends the flying eyes in one more tour of South America! Stay tuned on our page for updates and information fresh!

The Flying Eyes are a heavy, psychedelic rock band hailing from Baltimore, Maryland. Since forming, they have played support gigs for bands such as Dead Meadow, The Raveonettes, The Black Angels, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti and Dan Auerbach among many others. They swiftly achieved a notable following in Europe with extensive club tours and festival appearances. Highlights include: Burg Herzberg Festival 2010 (sharing the main stage with Jeff Beck and Hawkwind), an appearance on the legendary Rockpalast Crossroads show broadcast on German national TV, Orange Blossom Special festival (DE), Stoned From The Underground (DE) and Trutnov Open Air (CZ).

In July 2013, The Flying Eyes released their third album “Lowlands”, which was paid for entirely by the support of their fans through Kickstarter. They supported the record with a 52 date headlining tour of Europe and closed out the year with a one off performance in India at the Synchronicity Festival.

The Flying Eyes on tour:
03.09 Montevideo
03.10 Buenos Aires
03.11 Cordoba
03.17 Porto Alegre
03.18 Goiania
03.19 Brasilia
03.20 Sao Paulo
03.24 Belo Horizonte
03.25 Aldeia Velha
03.27 Rio de Janeiro

You know what sucks about Radio Moscow going back to South America for a third time on a tour presented by Abraxas Events? Nah, I’m pulling your leg. Nothing sucks about it. The news is all good these days from the West Coast power trio, who already this month have recorded a double-live LP that will see release next year on Alive Naturalsound and announced their first tour of Australia alongside Kings Destroy and Melbourne’s Holy Serpent. They’ll sneak the South American dates in before that Aus/NZ run, which is impressive in itself, and play Chile, Uruguay and Argentina before hitting Brazil hard starting Jan. 13.

No fewer than three of the included dates are fests, though really, anytime Radio Moscow shows up, it’s a party. Here’s the announcement from Abraxas and the confirmed multi-continental dates:
