Freak Valley Festival 2027 Makes First Lineup Announcement
Holy crap holy crap holy crap! When Freak Valley asked after its rad-as-hell 2026 edition (review here) who people wanted to see in 2027, Causa Sui were the first name that came to my mind. Like My Sleeping Karma, who played in 2025, they’re a bucket-list band for me, and while it’s never a guarantee that that invite is going to come, even the prospect of maybe finally seeing them is deeply exciting. Throw in Lowrider and Naxatras and I kind of just feel like Freak Valley is doing me favors here.
Of course that’s just the start of the announcement, which also boasts theatrical doomers Castle Rat, who will knock the socks off the Rockpalast crew, I’ve no doubt, the reliable spit-aggression of Mantar, as well as Maria Iskariot, Primitive Ring and psych-weirdos Green Milk From the Planet Orange, lest you think the festival won’t be celebrating the aesthetically oddball. It’s gonna be great. Tickets are gonna sell out like three minutes after they go on sale. If you can go, I heartily encourage you to do so. I’ve been to the last five editions in a row and would not trade my experience there for anything.

FREAK VALLEY 2027: first names are in 🔥
Okay freaks, we couldn’t keep it to ourselves any longer. Here are the first eight bands for next year, and there’s plenty more coming.
CASTLE RAT : Fantasy doom with swords, huge riffs and a whole lot of theatre. Honestly one of the bands we wanted most. Can’t wait.
Mantar : Two guys making more noise than most five-piece bands. Filthy, punky, blackened sludge. Every show we’ve seen was a beating (the good kind).
Naxatras : Warm, hypnotic Greek psych. Close your eyes and drift.
Causa Sui : Danish instrumental heroes. Long psych jams, krautrock detours and guitars that just keep going until they’re somewhere in outer space. No vocals needed, trust us.
Maria Iskariot : Belgian punk, fast, loud and not remotely interested in behaving.
PRIMITIVE RING : New LA trio with folks from Fuzz, Hooveriii, Frankie and the Witch Fingers and GØGGS. Raw, heavy, primitive rock ‚n‘ roll.
GREEN MILK FROM THE PLANET ORANGE : Japanese psych chaos. Prog, noise and space rock all at once, at full speed.

Hope you get to go over and finally see Causa Sui. After many years I got to see them this summer, amazing show.
