Sleep Post New Single “The Morrisist”; Hempispheres Out Sept. 3
More big feelings on the internet today about new Sleep. Being a gentleman of a certain age, I understand how it goes when a band you love and/or have based your personality around liking does something to pull the rug out from under that, but I have to say, you could do far worse than Sleep with Al Cisneros, Bubba Dupree and Dale Crover. I get some Om in the nod of the newly posted “The Morrisist,” tonally and in Cisneros‘ vocals, but if the dude calls it Sleep and owns the name, then there you go. I don’t know what Matt Pike is up to this afternoon, so don’t ask.
This new incarnation of Sleep will release their new album, Hempispheres — you know, like Rush, but stoned — on Sept. 3 with physical editions following Oct. 30 through Third Man Records. I guess I have opinions here, and I’ll probably review the album after it’s out since I’m not cool enough to get Third Man promos if any are even sent, but I feel like so much of the chatter around the Sleep revamp is just haven’t-seen-it-live-yet shock that I’m exhausted by the thinkpieces and hot-takes and whatever else and have little desire to add to it. If this makes or breaks you, I don’t know, maybe take a look at why?
