Wedge Announce Fall Spanish Tour
German heavy rock traditionalists Wedge recently posted a new single “We Need Spaces” in honor of Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Studios in Hamburg, which shut down following, apparently, some kind of explosion. No idea what happened there, but I think the hope is they’ll open in a new, less-explody spot. Fingers crossed. It’s the first new Wedge since 2020’s Like No Tomorrow (review here) and if the YouTube player below isn’t to your liking, there’s the link below to a streaming service catchall. Catchy Thin Lizzy vibes hit pretty sweet, however you go.
The band have dates in Spain coming up in November. They’re calling it an Iberian tour, and if you’d see that and be like “hey, no Portugal!,” fair enough, but the band has said it’s Iberian because not everywhere below necessarily sees itself as part of Spain, or not everybody in their listenership does anywhere. It’s the internet. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I’ll call it a Spanish tour though and say that’s probably close enough. If you want to explain to me the particulars of European separatism on the Peninsula, I’m not being sarcastic when I say I’m here for it.

The song “We Need Spaces” was created in response to the destruction of the Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Studios in Hamburg, where we had previously recorded. Following an explosion in the building, the studio lost its original premises. Studio owner Dennis Rux then invited artists and bands to contribute musical works in order to raise awareness of the situation and support the continuation of independent studio culture.
The piece is intended as a contribution to preserving creative spaces for independent music production. It represents a handmade, artistically independent approach to music-making beyond purely commercial production structures, while also highlighting the importance of cultural spaces where music can be created collectively and collaboratively.
