Long-running cosmic stoner doom magnates Sons of Otis have signed a deal to reissue their catalog through Heavy Psych Sounds. My initial reaction to this news was “great,” and I stand by that. Whatever gets those records in the ears of a new generation of fans is only to the betterment of all parties involved. The Toronto outfit were last heard from with Isolation (review here), which was released in Oct. 2020 — a boom-time for being isolated, certainly — through Totem Cat Records, and as their seminal 1996 sophomore outing, Spacejumbofudge, celebrates its 30th anniversary, that and the band’s prior 1994 debut, Paid to Suffer, will of course be the first up in the reissue series.

There’s a lot to dig into with those early Sons of Otis records, from the fact that they were ultrastoned ahead of their time to releasing on Man’s Ruin, prior reissues on CLF Records, on and on, but more important is getting the albums back out with as wide a distribution as possible for first-timers to hear and, invariably, be floored.
