Ptolemea Premiere “Breathe” Video

ptolemea

Luxembourg-based atmospheric doom outfit Ptolemea released their sophomore LP, Kali, in Nov. 2025 through Raging Planet, and the video premiering below for “Breathe” is the second from the eight-song record. The band is a solo-driven venture, with vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Priscila Da Costa (guitar, keys/Moog, percussion) at its center both in terms of the songwriting and arrangements. Also the vocalist for Portuguese doom metallers Sinistro since 2023, Da Costa works with a number of collaborators throughout the 40-minute LP, but as her voice takes flight toward the end of opener “Kura,” the focus is very much on the melody she’s carrying amid the atmospheric swell of heavy sounds.

Gorgeously textured and carefully arranged, Da Costa turns “Breathe” into a kind of mindfulness mantra. The chorus, “Feel the kindness/Feel the love,” follows verse lines like “See the world as you wish it to be” and “Only you can feel your calling,” and the affirmation is complemented by the open space of the music. The subsequent “Blue Moon” hits into a fuller crescendo and there are shifts in the ambience throughout the album depending in part on who’s involved in a given song besides Da Costa — her collaborators include Sacha Hanlet on arrangements and Sinistro bandmates Rick Chain and Ricardo Matias on the closer “Kali” — but with the threads of keyboard and the fluidity of tempo throughout, there’s a consistency ofptolemea kali outreach that “Breathe” emobodies lyrically as well. “Luta” brings a sunnier feel while “Guilhotina” crushes outright while maintaining the post-metallic breadth that by then is well established as the world in which these songs take place.

Is that “the world as you wish it to be?” It might be, honestly. If you’re someone who believes beauty and aural heft not to be mutually exclusive, the immersion throughout Kali is palpable and headphone-ready. “Andhera” follows “Guilhotina” with bassy lurch and a more ethereal melodic cast, while the shorter “Gaivota” has a folkish cast and, like “Guilhotina,” the title-track and others, is in Portuguese. It leads directly into the acoustic strum of “Aqui, Ali, Acolá,” fleshed out with keys and the layered, forward vocal, by then familiar in presence but no less accomplished for that. In closing, “Kali” is more patient but no less heavy than the most weighted parts of the album that shares its name, with a thud of kick drum that holds even in the instrumental break, seeming to punctuate Da Costa‘s voice. Harsh whisper-screams arise toward the finish, but the actual ending is suitably melodic for a release that has so carefully upheld that promise with which it set out. It feels complete, and like it covers broader reaches than its manageable runtime might convey.

You’ll find the album streaming in full below, but if you need a reminder as I know I do from time to time (read: by the minute) to breathe, then “Breathe” is here for you. The video premiere follows here, with more from the PR wire underneath before you get to “Guilhotina”‘s clip and the album stream.
