Yawning Man Announce ‘Return to the Rock’ Livestream for May 9
If you’ve got a minute to sit down and listen to a lame-ass hot take, I firmly believe that bands are missing opportunities to engage with their fans by not doing livestreams. No, it’s not going to work for every band, and not every band has the means or the know-how or the friends who have either. I understand that. But if you’ll recall — and I know no one wants to think about it which is how you know the next one will be even worse also they fired everybody who can fix one — during the pandemic from 2020-2022, livestreaming very quickly became a normal thing. You could buy tickets like a pay-per-view, and it was a way to support acts who couldn’t get out to tour.
Once touring opened up again, the whole idea got dropped. Well, kudos to Yawning Man for seeing that they can bring experiential value to a digital happening. Their ‘Return to the Rock’ livestream will follow up on 2020’s Live at Giant Rock (discussed here, featured here), which I’ll continue to argue was a peak Yawning Man moment. The quintessential desert band in their native habitat; it just worked. The sound, the scenery, all of it. I can’t wait for the sequel.
They have virtual and real-life tickets available now, and Yawning Man will be back in Europe starting at the end of May, keeping company on tour with guitarist Gary Arce‘s other project SoftSun. Those dates and the stream info follow here:

During Covid lock down Yawning Man took to the desert to capture a live performance at the magical Giant Rock site in Landers California. Now the band invites our friends and fans to come to the rock and see the band streaming live from Giant Rock!
