Caustic Casanova to Return to the Stage This Wednesday

It’s a little bit before eight in the morning as I write this. It’ll be Monday when it posts. Caustic Casanova, who went on hiatus in 2023 following the release of their brilliant 2022 LP Glass Enclosed Nerve Center (review here) on Magnetic Eye, and they’ll be playing their first show since then — Marty Risemberg taking over on drums for Stefanie Zaenker — this Wednesday, April 15, in Washington D.C., supporting Dead Meadow at Pearl Street Warehouse.

Great news, right? I saw it on social media yesterday, though bassist/vocalist Francis Beringer and guitarist Jacob Kimberley (note: I don’t know if guitarist Andrew Yonki is still in the band) have posted before about recording new Caustic Casanova with Dale Crover (Melvins, Altamont, etc.) drumming before — I think they were tracking with Toshi Kasai? — so I knew they were kicking something around. It is a welcome return from a band who’ve yet to be given a fraction of their due for the intelligence they bring to noise rock and the character of their material. To celebrate their return, I put on “Bull Moose Against the Sky” from the last album and listened to its 23-minute, multi-stage rollout uninterrupted, for the first time in at least a year and a half. Just sat with it. The sun’s out. Spring is sprunging. Even quiet through the laptop speakers, that felt good as I transitioned from my first cup of coffee to my second.

That’s not to say I don’t wanna hear the new stuff, just that I’m happy they’re getting back to playing live and am curious for what the future might bring.

Because I’ll inevitably want to link back to it later, here’s the announcement from social media:

Surprise! Caustic Casanova will return to the stage WEDNESDAY APRIL 15TH opening for the legendary Dead Meadow at Pearl Street Warehouse in Washington, DC.

This show will feature Jacob Kimberley and Francis Beringer joined by drummer extraordinaire and all-around swell guy Marty Risemberg (Taisha Estrada Band, Project Locrea, Outerloop). This is most likely the one and only time you’ll ever see this particular iteration of CC so do not miss it if you’re in the area. We will be playing new material that we recorded with DALE CROVER of the MELVINS on drums (more on that coming soon!).

Come get a first taste!

We play at 8 pm Wednesday 4/15. Tickets going fast.

I still think about that time I saw them on a Metal Monday in Louisville and it ended up being the last show of their original run at the time, just a month or two before the hiatus.

Good to see them back in some capacity.
