Prophet and Flesh Premiere “Short End” Video; Harmful Offensive Demeanour EP Out April 30

Prophet and Flesh

German heavy hardcore rockers Prophet & Flesh will release their debut EP, Harmful Offensive Demeanour, on April 30 through Who Can You Trust? Records. “Short End,” which premieres in the video below as the first single from the three-songer outing from the four-piece of vocalist André Schmidt, guitarist Youssef Saleh, bassist Chris Noll and drummer Christian Dräger, who all show up in the clip to drive home the band-in-room performance feel, which though the EP has a full and professional production — able to hit like metal and shove like hardcore punk — is nonetheless crucial.

“Short End,” perhaps unsurprisingly, is also the shortest of the three included cuts at 2:11. Both “About Guilt” (3:58) and the eponymous “Prophet & Flesh” follow a similar course of influence blending punk and heavy rock and metallic riffing with room for melody but also a disaffected dissonance. They’re not the first punk-rooted fare from Who Can You Trust?, but they might beProphet and Flesh Harmful Offensive Demeanour EP the most aggressive in presentation, both in stylistic terms and in the sound of the recording, which is tightly toned and meeting at the place where crossover became thrash but still, as “Prophet & Flesh” brings to light in its second half, able to groove the way a rock band might.

It’s a nine-minute outing, and it’s fair to call Harmful Offensive Demeanour early days for Prophet & Flesh despite the demos posted going back to mid-2024, but the nuance shouldn’t be overlooked just because of the way they charge at you with the songs. In that regard, “Short End” might be the most fervent, with extra snarl on the vocals that sounds like it’s from the same place in the throat as Tomas Lindberg without the harshness of scream, and so it makes a rousing single, even if it doesn’t necessarily represent the whole scope of Prophet & Flesh at the beginning of their creative progression as a group.

Taken in combination with “About Guilt,” which is also streaming here — you’ll find the audio lower in the post — it’s possible to get more of a picture of what Prophet & Flesh are about, since even as “Short End” picks up the tempo from the song before it, it retains the opener’s hard-hitting ethic as a defining element. PR wire info follows the video on the player below.

As always, I hope you enjoy:

Prophet & Flesh, “Short End” video premiere

Prophet & Flesh is a four-piece from the western parts of Germany, right in the middle of Cologne and Frankfurt.

This band deliberately defies categorization! With a deep-rooted passion for Punk and Metal and their own unique blend of End Time Rock, Prophet & Flesh aim to provoke – emotions, thoughts, reactions! They confront the here and now and lay bare what is truly there! What these guys celebrate on stage isn’t the average synchronized uniformity, but the sum of four individuals coalescing their influences into a border-crossing mixture, expressed with heartfelt passion and a rare urgency. From fast-paced, high-energy Rock songs with a clear Heavy Metal Edge to aggressive Hardcore Punk with a dark intensity.

Their influences are ranging from fierce Punk a’la Bad Brains or Poison Idea to classic Rock like Motörhead or Metallica, up to bands like Soundgarden or Alice in Chains.
