Temple of the Fuzz Witch to Record New Album

Detroit’s Temple of the Fuzz Witch were heard from last year on a split with Seum (review here); their tracks are streaming below. Their next record, if they’re recording at the end of Spring — May? — could feasibly be out before the end of the year if, like 2024’s Apotheosis (review here), it’s being released through Ripple Music, but I don’t know that either way. What I do know is that despite a sound rooted in the extremity of death and black metal, Temple of the Fuzz Witch have been able to resonate across (imaginary) genre lines with a sludgy disaffection and the overwhelming sense that, indeed, we’re all doomed.

So be it. Whenever it shows up, the new album will be their fourth, and they cite it as more aggressive. Fair enough. I don’t know what their specific plans are or what their timing is, but their post on socials gave some preliminary info and you’ll find it below:

Temple of the Fuzz Witch

Temple of the Fuzz Witch is returning to the studio.

At the end of spring we’ll be stepping back into Bricktop Recording in Chicago to begin tracking our next full-length album. We couldn’t be more excited to return to the place where this next chapter will come to life.

This record is shaping up to be the heaviest and most aggressive material we’ve ever written. Our sound has continued to evolve and push into the obscure dark and uncharted territory. There are far more layers of heaviness , atmosphere, and sonic textures than anything we’ve done before. Expect crushing lows, darker moods, and a wider spectrum of heaviness that hits harder and digs deeper.

This album truly marks the beginning of a new age for the band.

More updates soon as we descend back into the studio.
