Bear Bones Post “Ridin’ Out”; Debut Album Out Later This Year

bear bones

Yeah, they’re gonna get a few more eyes on it with Green Lung‘s Scott Black sitting in, but for me the nod of “Ridin’ Out” is its own appeal; comfortable in tempo but able to tolerate the shift into the wider-open chorus, like Killing Joke but doomed, and presented with a forward relationship to heavy blues. There’s something happening for sure. You might recall the band released their first single, the Townes Van Zandt cover “Waitin’ Around to Die” (premiered here) last March, heralding a self-titled debut that I apparently reviewed at least a year too early. Whoops.

Anyhow, the difference between “Ridin’ Out” and “Waitin’ Around to Die” — certainly neither has time to finish pronouncing gerunds — is the new single is original. They wrote it. It was the only original track on the self-titled as I heard it in 2025 (no idea if what New Heavy Sounds is releasing later this year is the same or not; I’m just a caveman…) and inarguably the most expansive. My question at this point is how the balance will ultimately shake out between traditionalism and forward-thinking heavycraft in what Bear Bones do, because this might be one of those situations where a band gets together with a specific idea of doing one thing — in this case covers — and turns out to be really good at something else (i.e. writing music) and end up adjusting their intended trajectory, or not.

I don’t know how it’ll go, but I’m glad “Ridin’ Out” is out there for people to hear. You’ll find it at the bottom of this post, while the following art and blue text are off the PR wire:

Blues/doom outfit Bear Bones share new single “Ridin’ Out” feat. Scott Black of Green Lung

Bear Bones, who feature members of Elephant Tree, Limb, Swedish Death Candy, Black Moth and Morag Tong, return with “Ridin’ Out”, a brand new original track that marks the next step forward for the blues/doom outfit. Built around a driving groove and uncompromising riffs, the single captures the band at their most direct and focused to date.

“Ridin’ Out” keeps one foot in the blues while leaning fully into the weight and scale of doom. It’s a track designed for volume and for the stage — tight, deliberate and built to land hard. There’s no excess, no overthinking — just a band locked in and pushing their sound further.

The single features a guest appearance from Scott Black of Green Lung, adding another dimension to the track. That collaboration will carry over to the live setting, with Scott joining Bear Bones on stage at this year’s Masters Of The Riff at Oslo, Hackney.

“Ridin’ Out” also introduces the band’s forthcoming album, set for release through New Heavy Sounds later this year. The partnership with New Heavy Sounds (Cwfen, Blacklab, Shooting Daggers, Death Pill, Sky Valley Mistress) signals a significant moment for Bear Bones, placing them alongside some of the strongest names in the UK heavy scene and setting the stage for their most complete statement yet.

With a growing live reputation and a clear sense of direction, Bear Bones are building momentum. “Ridin’ Out” is the first taste of what’s coming next.
