Avon Set April 17 Release for Black on Sunshine; Teaser Trailer Posted
The album title Black on Sunshine derives from the band that Avon founder James Childs (guitar, vocals, production) and bassist June Kato were in together after Childs emigrated from the UK around the turn of the century, but if you’re thinking that means Avon are about to trip-out for their third full-length, due April 17 through longstanding Italian imprint Go Down Records, they’re not that kind of band. Childs is a songwriter at heart, and while the opening title-track has its elements of Revolver-type psych, structure is very much a part of that, and the desert tones and melodies of “Awkwardness” and “Spacebar,” which follow, remind that the heart of Avon‘s purpose is still in non-aggro desert heavy.
Hooks abound. Some might remind of earliest Queens of the Stone Age, which feels like less of a fluke with the esteemed Alfredo Hernández drumming, and some might remind of Fatso Jetson‘s twists or classic punk rock born out of garage. Thinking the latter in “Super Furry Antidotes,” where “Strangest Love” is more straight-up ’70s heavy.
No full songs streaming yet, but a teaser is up now and you’ll find it at the bottom of this post, should you like to dig in. The below came off the PR wire:

Desert rock veterans AVON are set to release their highly anticipated third studio album “Black On Sunshine” on April 17 via Go Down Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has unveiled an official album trailer.
AVON unites an impressive pedigree of desert rock history. On drums, the mighty Alfredo Hernández – known for his work with Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, and Yawning Man – brings his unmistakable groove and desert-born power to the record. Frontman James Childs previously found success with British rock outfit Airbus and collaborated with Geoff Barrow as well as “Philthy Animal” Taylor. His songwriting even earned him an Emmy nomination for the theme to Disney’s worldwide hit cartoon “Kick Buttowski”. On bass, Charles Pasarell – deeply rooted in the Palm Springs desert scene – completes the sonic backbone that defines AVON’s sound.
Following the success of “Mad Marco” (2016) and “Dave’s Dungeon” (2018), “Black On Sunshine” showcases AVON’s tight, dynamic songwriting and their ability to merge melodic depth with unrestrained energy. Rooted in the spirit of the Californian desert yet pushing beyond genre boundaries, the album blends psychedelic rock textures, driving grooves, and an unmistakable desert-born energy
