Urskog Records Launches With Undulathund Self-Titled LP

undulathund

Seeing physical issue nearly two years after it was tracked live in the studio, apparently in a single take, Undulathund‘s self-titled LP marks the first release from new imprint Urskog Records. The record is comprised of three sax-laced longform-ish instrumentals, jam-born perhaps, but carved into thoughtful processions therefrom, and is streaming in its entirety at the bottom of this post. It gets pretty freaky, but I have the feeling you can handle it. They list the release date as December 2025. I’m calling it a 2026 release in my head. Sue me.

In any case, it is the first full-length from Undulathund, so all the more fitting that its launch should coincide with that of the label. What follows are the announcements of both, which came down the PR wire:

UNDULATHUND DEBUT// URSKOG LAUNCH

The wait is over. Urskog Records is here.

Built quietly with patience, persistence, and a clear sense of purpose, Urskog Records comes to life after a long period of listening, shaping, and commitment to doing things on our own terms, in our own way.

Releasing this first album at the close of the year, though unconventional, feels meaningful. Not as a grand gesture, but as a moment of genuine excitement and renewal. A point of arrival, and the opening of a much wider horizon, after more than a year of work behind the scenes. It’s a joy to finally open the doors, and today, we are pleased to present not only the label but our first release.

From the start, this has been a bit of a maverick project to create a space for music and artistic vision and its adjacent craftsmanship to unfold fully, without haste or concession in every aspect of the release process. With the label concept built on the specific dedication to international psychedelia, we are drawn to music with an untamed spirit, atmosphere, and depth, work that feels inhabited, a bit feral, and meaningful rather than manufactured. Our focus is the unspoken relationship between artist, sound, and listener, and the enduring ritual of record-making, collecting, and listening as an act of attention, care, and daily inspiration; the way music shapes and inhabits our lives and cultural history. Alongside uncovering magnificent, overlooked, and forgotten gems, we are equally committed to amplifying brilliant artists carving bold new paths forward. In that spirit, we present the self-titled, three-track debut EP born of jam sessions and sonic side quests. The creation of a sound that refused to be pinned down, a creature born of intuition rather than genre: Undulathund.

Out on all listening platforms now, we bring you their self-titled, three-track debut EP.

The name, like the music, doesn’t offer itself up too easily. A linguistic fusion of Swedish slang and nonsense, “Undulathund” loosely translates to something like Lazy Parakeet Dog. It’s an absurd, playful, yet strangely accurate phrase, a nod to the unexpected combinations that make the band what it is: delicate and feral, cosmic and grounded, yet kaleidoscopically explosive and intrinsically free.

Undulathund’s debut album, recorded live in a snowy industrial space on January 13, 2024, captures the band in full alchemy mode. The studio was no sterile lab, it was a conduit to expansive tracks shaped in real time, and one hot take. The band navigating loose frameworks with instinct and communion together.

“We have an idea of the form,” they say, “but the music comes to life in performance. Everyone brings their own state of mind to it, and that’s exactly what we hope it will do for our audience.”

That mindset ripples through everything the band creates: groove-heavy stoner riffs melt into mellow psychedelia, elastic sax lines burst out of tightly wound choruses, and moments of gentle restraint bloom into raw, electrifying chaos. No one’s here to show off; everyone’s here to serve the song. “Sometimes that means doing less. Sometimes it means going full freak out. It always has to feel natural.”

One riff, lovingly nurtured across multiple songs, even sparked a new track before being gently retired, still waiting for the right moment, the right track, the right cosmic alignment.

A rich and melodically dense three-track album, this debut from the spirited five piece brings together just under 38 minutes of bounding groove with melancholic grit that’s strangely uplifting and organic yet equally psychotic with stage energy that feels almost like witnessing an unravelling and re-weaving of brains and souls in real time.

Physical editions are available from Friday the 30th of January at 19:00 CET, with three limited variants alongside a classic audiophile black pressing. Each edition has been produced with intention and care, made to be lived with, returned to, and kept close.

To everyone who has supported, encouraged, and believed in this project while it was taking shape, thank you. We’re proud to finally share this first chapter, and excited to reveal what’s already in motion next.

A heartfelt welcome to Urskog Records.

Taking the listener to an expansively marvellous meadow of moss and fern, the dappled sunlight of life’s seasons, and of course, some “passing of the proverbial dutchie.” Paving the road to emotively powerful riffing over weighty jams through stacked refrain and crescendo sequences (which pack plenty of atmospheric, mellodically melancholic yet strangely uplifting punch) is a gloriously resinous saxophone at its gutsy centre while spacy keys wrap all that rich rhythm and soulful riffage in a suitably psyched-up web of glittering stars.
