Kyote Radio to Release Habitats Feb. 13

kyote radio

Habitats, out Feb. 13, is the second full-length from now-New Mexico-based heavy rock and rollers Kyote Radio. Originally formed in Austin, Texas, the band issued their debut, Real Crime, in 2021, and as with that LP, this one would seem to have been constructed in part from compiled prior singles. “The Crown,” the video for which you’ll see below, includes a guest spot from The Sword guitarist Kyle Shutt, and was first posted by the band in 2022. “Fossilized,” “Coming Back” and “Shamans” were also issued as standalones between 2022 and 2023, and I guess with the other songs here that might account for some of the lineup overlap as seen in the PR wire info below, the relocation might account for some of that as well. I don’t know anything, but the songs rock if you feel like chasing them down for an early preview.

The PR wire had the following on the subject:

Sophomore LP “Habitats” from psychedelic, sunbaked garage rockers Kyote Radio out February 13th

Kyote Radio is a New Mexico based rock band with roots in the West Texas ghost town of Terlingua, a remote desert outpost where frontman Micah Paredes was born and raised before landing in Austin, where the band was founded in 2013. Paredes leads Kyote Radio on electric guitar and vocals, delivering sharp songwriting backed by a band that features collaborators Nick Smith, Wesley Riddle, Russ Connell, Nick Blossom and Ray Heilman – who anchor the band with a thundering rhythm section and provide listeners with a full dose of heavy riffs and fuzzy guitar solos.

Following the release of their 2018 debut EP, Mouth of the Cave, Kyote Radio teamed up with renowned Austin-based producer, Frenchie Smith, for their first full length LP, Real Crime which was released in 2021. The band has continued to release singles in the years since, including Habitats track “The Crown” featuring Kyle Shutt of The Sword, which was featured as Song of the Day on Austin’s KUTX radio. In 2024 Kyote Radio shifted headquarters to Taos, NM where they are set to release their 2nd LP “Habitats” on February 13th, 2026.

According to Kyote Radio frontman Micah Paredes, “Habitats is an album whose creation spanned my final years living in Austin, my relocation to the mountains of Northern New Mexico, and the birth of my first child – it’s a record that is soaked to the bone in the emotions of these changes and the energy and excitement of new beginnings. It’s our heaviest record yet, and this music really served as an outlet for working through and navigating some of the most significant experiences of my life, and in the end Habitats is about the spaces that our lives inhabit and the paths that we choose to get us there.

Building songs with textures that draw heavily from both classic rock and modern indie, Kyote Radio blazes their own winding trail through forests of fuzz and canyons of reverb on their way up the mountain to rock and roll glory.

A music video for track “Between the Oceans” will also release Feb 13th, and the band will be celebrating Habitats with a release party on Feb 14th in Taos, NM at Revolt Gallery featuring The Bees and Locusts and DJ Modest.

Kyote Radio will also be announcing additional shows across the Southwestern US later this year.

The band is currently writing and recording songs for their next record, so fans of Habitats shouldn’t have to wait long for a follow up.
