The Midnight Ghost Train Writing a New Album
Forgive me if you’ve already seen this, and I’m sure you have because you’re way cool like that. I’m not super ‘on’ Instagram, and so far as I could see this news wasn’t cross-posted, so yeah, I just kind of whiffed on it until I happened to be scrolling through, but earlier this month, Kansas heavy blues punchers The Midnight Ghost Train announced they were in-progress on writing a new album. They don’t have a timeline (at least not publicly) so much as an apparent intention to record, so if you’re holding your breath for a record to show up by the end of the year, I’d believe it’ll be 2027 before it shows up. Reissues were through Majestic Mountain the last few years. If that association were to continue, then fair enough, but I don’t know that.
Of course, the band initially called it a day back in 2018 following 2017’s Cypress Ave. (review here) and wound up back together to perform at Freak Valley 2022 (review here) and a few others, which was a tour they followed with another European run in 2025.
As reunions go, it’s been less of a flood of activity than a reset and sort of feeling things out on new terms. For years in the 2010s, The Midnight Ghost Train didn’t stop. Until, of course, they did. But in picking back up, they’ve been more selective and intentional about where they’ve put themselves, and I would expect that to continue. I would expect new perspectives to show up in their next recorded material as well, but that’s an easy bet since that’s always how they’ve done things.
But anyway, just so I can’t say I actually missed the news, here’s the confirmation of writing, from Instagram as noted:
Well alrighty now, I guess we should let everyone know the news. 🔥TMGT is back in the laboratory and writing a new album. We thought it was over with, but there’s just no way we could end it. There is more to be said from our band, and more music to be made. We will not be touring non-stop like we used to. But we will return for short stuff in the future, and we are going to write a new album.
Maybe a live album in the meantime would hold you all over as well? Either way, the album writing is well in the works, don’t know when or who is putting it out, but it’s going to happen. Can’t stop us.
