Duel Announce Spring European Tour
Not a huge surprise that Duel are heading back over to tour Europe again this coming Spring, but apart from Metalheadz Open Air in Augsburg, the run as it stands now is entirely club dates, and call me crazy, but when phrases like “Spring European tour” pop up these days, my mind immediately goes to a list of festivals a band are likely to be playing. They’ve done the circuit, so I don’t think it’s neglect necessarily, and their sound is well suited to the directly-facebound, bouncing-off-the-back-wall-to-hit-you-again-immediately impact a venue can provide and open air can’t. Honestly though, there’s no wrong answer.
The Texas four-piece released their bruiser of a fifth record, Breakfast With Death (review here), which my brain kept incorrectly autocorrecting as Breakfast With Satan, I think because of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and the ‘Riding With Satan’ episode, though there was no mistaking the cover art, which also ruled. In any case, if you haven’t caught Duel in the last few years, consider it advised you do so. Whoever they’re riding with, what they’re riding is the line between heavy rock and three or four different kinds of metal, and the force with which they execute on stage is enough to remind you why you loved this kind of music in the first place.
