Whatever else you might say about Tuber‘s newly-issued second full-length, Out of the Blue, it certainly lives up to its name. Last time we heard from the Greek instrumental four-piece, they were playing Desertfest Berlin 2017, thanking the crowd, and then all of a sudden, they’ve got a follow-up to their 2013 debut, Desert Overcrowded, posted on their Bandcamp. And it’s not just another record — it’s one that brings in copious keyboard elements and different styles to add progressive flair and scope to the band’s riffy underpinnings.

To wit, the whole thing’s streaming now and you can check out the synthy pulsations of “Cat Class” or the proggy post-fuzz of “Luckily Dead” as the band seem to draw inspiration from various heavy and hard rocks across the ages as they find a way to unite it all with a nod-ready groove. The sudden nature of Out of the Blue‘s arrival doesn’t make it any less welcome, certainly, and it shows quickly that while it may have taken three-plus years for Tuber to get this record out, they haven’t at all been stagnant during that time. Vinyl and CD are reportedly coming soon but can be preordered now.
