As pissed off as you might be, you’re probably not nearly as pissed off as Mantar. The German two-piece are gearing up to make their debut on Nuclear Blast in April with their second album, Ode to the Flame, and details about the record have started to surface. Like the songs that will be on it. And the cover. You know, the little things.

Actually, I dig the band’s fuck-it approach to artwork. Not that I’m not a fan of elaborate painted or photographic art or how it can tie into the music on a given record, but I’d say in this instance, given the ferocity of Mantar‘s approach, their choice of visual accompaniment makes perfect sense. See if you agree.

Northern Germany’s infernal extreme metal duo MANTAR, will release their Nuclear Blast debut worldwide on April 15th. Today, the band has revealed the cover artwork and the track list for Ode To The Flame.

Comments the band: “Actually we discussed the possibility of having no cover at all. We kinda liked the idea of boycotting the need of any so called “art” which bands try to get people’s attention with. The theme of the record is so one-dimensional and obvious that we decided to skip artwork and just put the title on the record to make it look more like an old book. A manifest, a challenge. We don’t want people to speculate about any meaning. The meaning is clear: kill, destroy, fuck shit up.”

Regarding the album title the band states: “The title Ode To The Flame is chosen in tradition of the debut record, Death By Burning to maintain the cleansing power of fire as the key theme. Fire is able to reset anything and will erase this planet one day from any plague that’s been around. Furthermore it’s obviously an ode to passion and iron will. Ode To The Flame isn’t dramatic, it’s drastic. By all means.”

Ode To The Flame track list:
01. Carnal Rising
02. Praise The Plague
03. Era Borealis
04. The Hint
05. Born Reversed
06. Oz
07. I, Omen
08. Cross The Cross
09. Schwanenstein
10. Sundowning

Ever since their inception in 2013 and the release of their first album in 2014 the band has been recognized as one of the hardest working in the German extreme metal underground. Melding the most sinister elements of styles like black metal, doom and punk, representing unfiltered pure primal rage, MANTAR have proven to be one of a kind. Their extremely intense live shows have been seen all over the world and have blown away unaware audiences with their unconditionally tight and brutal performances. MANTAR is a pure evil elemental force captured by only two uber passionate artists that strife for ultimate raw sonic power.
