Devil to Pay Post New Track “Your Inner Lemmy”
Indianapolis heavy rockers Devil to Pay will release their new album, A Bend Through Space and Time, this summer via Ripple Music, and while we have a ways to go before we get there, one could hardly call their new track “Your Inner Lemmy” anything but timely. The title of course refers to late Motörhead frontman and all-around underground icon Lemmy Kilmister, whose Dec. 28, 2015, passing has sent multitudes around the globe into mourning.
Like the Death Alley tribute posted last week, Devil to Pay‘s “Your Inner Lemmy” was obviously recorded prior to Kilmister‘s death, and it may or may not actually end up on A Bend Through Space and Time, but it makes an awful lot of sense right now, and rather than extol the greatness of Lemmy in a, “Hey, remember that time you put out Overkill? That was awesome,” kind of way, the lyrics embody an attitude true to the standard of the title in lines like, “Enjoy yourself before you can’t” and a chorus that, in a typically well-constructed Devil to Pay hook, tells just about everybody to fuck off.

Steve Janiak, singer/guitarist of Devil to Pay says, “We initially came up with the riffs in 2013 and they obviously sounded very Motörhead-ish. I named the idea ‘Your Inner Lemmy’ because it felt like we were channeling the rock god. Months later we fleshed out the arrangement and made the lyrics a textbook lesson on everything Lemmy was about. We initially didn’t intend to put it on the record, but the more we played it, the more it spoke to us. After we recorded it,we were really hoping that somehow he would end up hearing the song. His unfortunate passing shocked and saddened us all. RIP Lemmy!”
