Teacher Post Teaser for Debut LP

So what do we find out with the teaser video for Teacher‘s debut album? Not much, but a little. The Seattle-based duo will issue their first long-player sometime later this year via Devil’s Child Records, also responsible of late for releases by Year of the Cobra and Mos Generator/Sower. Also their logo looks pretty good on a school desk that may or may not have been come by through less than scrupulous means. And that’s pretty much it. Guitarist/vocalist Solomon Arye Rosenschein and drummer Jonathan Ethan Mercer seem content to keep the rest to themselves for the time being.

Don’t expect that to last. The twosome offered up their debut EP, EP1812, almost a year ago to the day. A quick four-songer, it positioned Teacher in a kind of nebulous space between heavy rock and grunge, delving into disaffected teenage nostalgia — or, at very least, nostalgia for being a disaffected teenager — on “Home for the Summer” and the somewhat buried highlight closer “Shuffled,” a pop emotional urgency carrying through the second half of a 40-copies-only tape while side one took a broader thematic focus with “Don’t Die on Me Now” and “Panopticon.”

As to where the record might go, I’m not about to speculate after hearing less than a minute of it, but the teaser does tell a few things about the production of the new recording, which is fuller in its sound than was the EP but also more natural, drawing back from some — just some — of the reverbed expanse that showed itself on the shorter release, perhaps to play up a more classic vibe. Again, whether that’s actually how it plays out, I don’t know — haven’t heard the record — but it’s an intriguing sample all the same, and if you want a piece, it’s right here, followed by some brief well wishes from the band:
