The Top 20 of 2015 Readers Poll is Now Open!

top 20 of 2015 readers poll

Welcome to the Sixth Annual The Obelisk Readers Poll!

I actually didn’t realize today was Dec. 1 until last week, but here we are. There’s a month left in 2015 and it’s time to put up the Top 20 of 2015 Readers Poll. Each year has continued to grow from the one before it, and that’s been amazing to watch and I hope it will be the same way this year. It’s certainly been an interesting one.

When we first started out last year, I wasn’t sure what the number one pick would be, and in 2015, I’m even less certain. I’ll admit, I’ve started putting my own list together, and I know what my number one pick is (I’ll post my own list later in the month), but more than any other year I’ve held a Readers Poll — and this is the sixth one, if you missed that above — it’s hard for me to gauge where people might be at in their own preferences.

Bottom line is I’m dying to know, so I won’t bother to delay much more, except to note that, as with the last couple years, we’ll be using a point system to tabulate the results, wherein a 1-4 ranking is worth five points, 5-8 worth four, 9-12 worth three, 13-16 worth two and 17-20 worth one, as well as tabulating the raw votes — covering all bases as much as possible in hopes of getting an accurate read and giving every record a fair shot.

You know the drill. Add your top picks to the form below and they’ll be tallied up accordingly. Results and individual lists are posted Jan. 1, 2016.

Thanks in advance for taking part in the Top 20 of 2015 Readers Poll:

[THIS POLL IS NOW CLOSED. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO TOOK PART.]

Please note that, as always, I have no interest or intention of storing, using, or even taking note of your email address, it’s just there as a means of making sure you’re a real person and not a spambot before the list is submitted. All forms are purged after the results and lists go live on Jan. 1.

Thanks as always to Slevin for his invaluable efforts in making this Readers Poll, and this entire site, a reality.

Aaaaah, it’s too early, I’ve got plenty of albums to hear yet!!!

  2. Great stuff this year, but unlike last year, there were no real run aways for top spots this year. I knew King Giant would be on top, but the rest fell into place after repeated listens. All in all, 2015 turned out much better than I anticipated!

I don’t know. To me, Elder – “Lore” and Mammatus – “Sparkling Waters” have utterly ran away with it. It’s rizla paper between the two for me, the nearest behind them is way behind.

      • Mike T says:

Yeh…Elder “Lore” and Torche “Restarter” were no brainers for me

      • doomborn says:

Sparkiling Waters got under the rader of many…magnificent ablum…I would also add Yuri Gagarin – At The Center of All Infinity…a good year for psychedelia…

  3. PauL G says:

Clutch killed it this year for me.

  4. Jeremy says:

Never thought I’d be looking at an Atomic Bitchwax album for best of the year all the way here in 2015, but I’ll be damned if I haven’t found myself going back to Gravitron more than anything else this year. It’s already shown infinitely more repeat listening value than the last few Bitchwax releases for me. The rest of my list is sort of up in the air, lots of surprises this year, pleasant and otherwise, and it wouldn’t feel right to put the new Monster Magnet on my list considering I think it’s technically a remix album??

  5. kokojones says:

I absolutely included Cobras and Fire on my list. It’s way more than just a remix album. They mostly reworked the songs and let them spiral out in new directions. The Last Patrol reimagining was killer, too.

  6. Aris Tombul says:

Here we go JJ, it is done and wish you merry Xmas and happy New Year, hope to see you in roadburn 2016

  7. M. Amok says:

Let the florescence of heavy music continue in 2016!!!

  8. bizon says:

albums by unknown bands like Grusom, Mondo Drag, Old Man’s Will, Sacri Monti or Gin Lady are my favourites this year. From those more known – Europe’s War of Kings, Ghost’s Meliora and Riverside’s Love, Fear and the Time Machine are close to the top of my rank.
