All Them Witches Release New Album Lightning at the Door

Sometimes, when life doesn’t immediately hand you a press release from the PR wire, you just have to write your own. So I did. Cheers to John Braymer for bringing me into the know:

All Them Witches Issue Lightning at the Door; Tour Dates Begin this Week

Nashville-based heavy rock explorers All Them Witches have announced the digital release of their new full-length, Lightning at the Door, via their Bandcamp page. The new album follows closely on the heels of their debut LP, Our Mother Electricity (review here), which distinguished the amorphous unit as the first American band to release an album through respected German imprint Elektrohasch Schallplatten, the label helmed by Stefan Koglek of heavy psych pioneers Colour Haze.

Whether or not Lightning at the Door will be similarly honored remains to be seen, but All Them Witches have wasted no time in getting it out to the public’s ears. Comprised to eight tracks that vary in mood from the brooding blues of “Marriage of Coyote Woman” to the reworking of Queens of the Stone Age, Songs for the Deaf-style fuzz and snare compression that pervades the second installment in that narrative — “Death of Coyote Woman” — Lightning at the Door brims with an organic, live feel. Songs are heavy but not aggressive or posturing, with “Romany Dagger” channeling Wovenhand‘s East-meets-West folk blend and still fitting seamlessly into a gorgeous overarching flow. As pastoral as its predecessor, but more confident and realized, Lightning at the Door confirms the potential All Them Witches showed on their debut and subsequent single covering Albert King‘s “Born under a Bad Sign,” which was released as a free download early in September.

All Them Witches recorded Lightning at the Door with co-producer Andy Putnam at Harriette Court-Yacht Club/Dojo and the album was mastered by Brainard Jose at Premier Audio Mastering. They’ll be supporting the new release with a 10-date tour through the Midwest and the South, and dates can be found below.
