Visual Evidence: Sleep Take a Personal Journey through Carl Sagan’s Cosmos

How desperate are we for new Sleep? Desperate enough that even a new promo shot earns its own post, thank you very much. Hell, it’s already the best-reviewed stoner metal band pic of 2012!

In the shot below, we see Sleep — drummer Jason Roeder (left), guitarist Matt Pike (right), bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros (bottom) — paying homage to Carl Sagan’s Cosmos with, among other things, righteous turtleneckage.

I ask you, what’s not to love?

It's so influential!

I can’t confirm this and I’m sure how you would, but I think Matt Pike sweater is supposed to be an homage to Neil DeGrasse Tyson. But that could me wish-thinking. I think I’ve seen him wear a sweater like that…

    Best Photograph Ever.

  3. Cosmic Nod says:

HAHAHA that’s an awesome tribute. No one has seen or lived inside of the Sun like these guys have though! haha I love some Astronomy and Sleep manage to capture the feeling of space like no other, so this is really fitting form.

Somebody just lock these dudes in a jam room with a garbage bag full of weed and keep the tape rolling, how hard is that? Presto, new fucking SLEEP.

  5. Larry says:

Nah dude, Sagan wore way more turtlenecks than Neil DeGrasse Tyson does. Like turtlenecks all the time. Plus unrelatedly Sagan was proto Tyson.

  6. Larry says:

Plus their new song is apparently called “…And Sagan”, which hints at Sagan worship. Hail Sagan.
