2012 Adventure, Pt. 7: A Second’s All

04/08/12 — 12.05 GMT — Sunday — Hotel

This is what the CD stack looked like yesterday:

And here’s what it looks like this morning:

Yeah, it pretty much went like that.

In the English language, there are just some statements that are utterly hopeless, and “I’m tired because I was up all night blogging” is one of them. I don’t even think Clint Eastwood circa The Good, the Bad and the Ugly could make that shit sound cool. Still, that’s the case. I knew I had work to do this morning, so it had to be into the middle of the night to get that post up. There was no letup in the action of the day, as you can see in the post, so it’s not like I had time to run back to the hotel to write. All in one shot — boom. A clean break.

It was well after 05.00 by the time I got to sleep, and, in a panic, I’d set my alarm for 09.45 to be up in time to check out of the hotel and get to the next place I’m staying before Desertfest‘s last day starts up. Didn’t quite work out like that. I called the other hotel this morning and canceled the reservation and booked another night where I am instead. Fuckers at the other place charged me anyway, but it was cheap, and last I looked it was raining, so it’s worth it to be a shorter distance to The Underworld and The Black Heart than I’d be if I switched locales.

It was stressful, though, and that didn’t help going back to sleep, which I ultimately never did. Today’s busy but nowhere near the intensity level of yesterday, so I’ll take it. Starting off by listening to some Asteroid on YouTube isn’t a bad way to go, and I guess I managed to get all my work done — for the moment; there always seems to be more waiting. In any case, I don’t anticipate any trouble getting to The Underworld in time for Wiht and then on from there. A little less running around will do me some good and hopefully I won’t be awake tonight until what would be a reasonable time to go to bed if I was back on Eastern US time — five hours behind GMT.

So, today, Desertfest, and tomorrow, Paris. I hope. I still don’t have a train ticket or a place to stay there, but with some luck and no doubt some savvy internetting on the part of The Patient Mrs., it should be alright.

Enjoy the last day Mr Taskmaster, I’m just gearing myself up for the poor Bristolian man’s version – Slabdragger, Dopefight, Grifter, Church of Misery, and Orange Goblin. Off for a beer in the The Best Pub In Town right next to the venue then on to the Roadburn warm-up (as I can’t help thinking of it).

Downside is that I can no longer deny that I’m ill, but nothing helps an illness like spreading it around!

I had not had time to read your travel posts until this morning. You made working on Easter Sunday a little more tolerable for a bit. Reading your posts, I am living vicariously through you. So many bands I will probably never see, that I would love to. Stubb, Trippy Wicked, Greenleaf, Serpent Venom, Asteroid…hey, did Ogre play…weren’t they supposed to? What’s the deal? Are they back together? Does anyone know? Maybe it was all just a dream.

Anyway, I’m happy to hear that this year’s trip (so far) seems to be going better than last years.

Now what would it take for you to snag another copy of Serpent Venom’s album to smuggle back to the States? The thing is like a million dollars online with exchange rates.
