Help Me Pick the Next audiObelisk Podcast
Friends, I’ve been going nuts the last couple days trying to figure out what to do for the next audiObelisk Transmission and I’m torn between two options. I know I could just do one this month and one the next, but what the hell, if I’m gonna be putting in the hours to compile the damn thing, I at least want to be into it. So I put it to you. Here are the two choices to which I’ve narrowed it down. Please vote in the comments thread.
Option #1: Rule Britannia
The idea here is basically that it’s all British bands. From Black Sabbath and Deep Purple to El Schlong and Obiat, with all your Electric Wizards and Orange Goblins in between, this would basically be a collection of the UK‘s kickass contributions to the genre. Not entirely comprehensive, of course — or else it would need to be a 10-hour-long Ken Burns documentary — but a good mix, with new music from Cathedral included.
Option #2: To the Ruin of Man
A salute to Man’s Ruin Records. This podcast would take a look at the defunct label’s influence over doom and stoner rock by featuring tracks from Dozer, (pre-Los) Natas, Acid King, Porn, Nebula, Suplecs and plenty of others who released albums through Frank Kozik‘s imprint. Might not be as diverse as the British podcast, but you can bet your ass this one won’t be short on distortion.
So it’s up to you. You see my dilemma. Please cast a vote by leaving a comment to this post. Most votes by the end of the week gets a podcast.

That’s a tough choice. My initial reaction was the British themed one. Not forgetting Ramasses (more on them and their new one later).
But, the more I think about the Man’s Ruin salute, the more I like it. It depends on if you want to do something nostalgic or more relevant. A Man’s Ruin salute is more unique and ptentially more popular in certain circles, gaining more attention because of how legendary the label has become, for so many valid reasons.
I say go for the Man’s Ruin salute!
Man’s Ruin. The British will survive. Man’s Ruin… well, didn’t.
Well, if you opted for Rule Britanica, then you could branch off into other locales with future installments (former eastern bloc stoner rock, dirty Jersey scumbag stoner rock, etc). If you did Man’s Ruin, you could branch off with current, active labels.
So my answer is, “I hope I’ve made things more complicated for you.”
Viva El Schlong! UK comp plz
Both surely would kick ass. Tho I have to say I’d vote more for the man’s ruin salute. I’d be really interested in seeing what you’d pick to include as well as how you put em together.
In the end it’s up to you brother, I’ll download that sunovabitch no matter what you do.
Man’s Ruin, but only if you play Killdozer’s cover of “When The Levee Breaks.”
Otherwise I vote for UK stuff like Hard Stuff, Leaf Hound, etc.
man’s ruin. lots of good stuff, some of it incredibly hard to find.
I would like a psychedelic/space rock theme sometime, other than that I’m happy.
Definitely the British one…there’s some awesome music over here and let’s face it we did give the world Sabbath, Led Zep, Deep Purple, Floyd…etc.
And while you’re at it stick some new blood on there…maybe a bit of Grifter!!!
Man’s Ruin comp IS the right choice, go on!!
Do both…do the UK one, then do a Man’s Ruin one…everyone’s happy!!!
Mans Ruin!
I agree with Ollie, both! Why choose??! Maybe the Brit one first. I’d be interested in hearing some stuff I maybe haven’t heard before. Plus, it would give you another reason to get Electric Wizard on here again!
I’m collecting tons of Man’s Ruin stuff so… Man’s Ruin! Even if also the other choice seems to be very interesting!
Man’s Ruin all the way…I own a bunch of Man’s Ruin stuff and I’m very curious to see which bands and tracks you plan on selecting…I would LOVE to see some bands and tracks that I have not heard of before…Either way you choose to go I’m sure it will be AWESOME as usual…Good luck with your final selection :)
