Can't for the life of me understand the hype with these guys. I have no problem with the sound they're going for or the production, but actual quality/interesting songwriting seems to be an afterthought with everything I've checked out by them, the above song is definitely no exception.

They have exploded - and I just don't get it. Not a hater comment. I grabbed the album, but it just never grabbed me. I'm more curious about the phenomenon of their spread. If FB likes are a measurement these days, they've surpassed Dead Meadow by 5,000 fans. 7,000 more than Blood Ceremony. I mean, shit. That's crazy.

Tough crowd. I thought Blood Lust was a great album. Catchy as all hell. Would I rate them as better than Dead Meadow or Blood Ceremony? Probably not but I'm happy to say they belong in that company.

Sound like a decent mix of the Beatles and Sabbath to me, fair does to the hype, reckon it'll disappear if they can't do it justice live?

Interestingly, this month's Metal Hammer has a photo of what they say is the band, which features 4 hairy/beardie dudes, certainly not the Uncle and two women who supposedly recorded Blood Lust. I suspect that some label influence has gone into finding some musos who can actually play. Whether they can maintain the naivete and charm of the recordings remains to be seen. I'm seeing their first gig next month. As you say, once they play live they may well lose a lot of the mystique they currently have.

Yeah, I suspected that might be the case. I read an interview with him a while ago where he said that the bass and drums were played by "Kat" and "Red", but figured it was a one man job.

I'll agree there is a lot of hype surrounding this band, could have something to do with the mystery surrounding them, and their weird back story. Gimmick bands like this (Ghost, Goat, etc) tend to come off with a running start these days.

I think their songwriting is pretty catchy though. Honestly, they are one of the few retro styled bands that grabbed my attention these days, although I put off listening to them for quite a bit because I thought the name was stupid and assumed that they would suck. Same with Kadaver, I didn't get into them at first because the name mislead me into thinking they were something entirely different, and they would be the other retro-ish band I ended up really digging on as of late.

I hopped onto the bandwagon pretty hard with these guys, now I'm hopping off pretty hard. I simply don't care about them anymore.

I like Vol 1, and absolutely love Blood Lust. I'm looking forward to hearing the next album

It's fantastic music for blasting while driving.

Heard of, but I never really listened to these quackers before...at least I don't think I have. Very meat and potatoes, but a nice fuzzy tone. I wasn't aware of the phony back story, either! I just keep thinking in terms of EWiz's Black Masses, tattoo headed cretins and hot chick guitarists watching Italian horror movies dosed to the gills on bad paper, snarling at each other and plotting to rape and murder the middle aged biddy in the "flat" next door. That shit sells! Just ask Rob Zombie.

I love Blood Lust and am looking forward to hearing this whole album. I dig this guy's whole trip. I've learned not to judge a whole album from an initial youtube video.

Blood Lust is a pretty great album. Their not reinventing the wheel or anything but good nonetheless. The new single didn't grab me right away. I'm holding out to pass judgement until I hear the whole record.

They're aight. Blood Lust was really groovy first time I heard it but then after a few listens it was okay. I think I like Witchcraft better.

I like this band a lot, but I don't get all school-girlish for them.

I see it the exact opposite. To me the album is compeltely about hooks and songwriting. If I had to guess, I'd guess that Mr. Starrs has some background in music other than what he's making now.

I feel like I should sit down and really listen to this band because they have gotten a lot of good hype and press, and even from people whose taste I generally agree with...but what I have heard (admittedly little) is decent, head-nodding and fuzzy, but nothing that made me rush out to buy it....I would probably enjoy it a lot more live, assuming they can do a solid live show.
