I think it’s fair to consider the first US tour from Greek heavy rock forerunners 1000mods the most significant arrival on North American shores of a European underground band since Truckfighters‘ first tour in 2011. I could not possibly be more thrilled to have The Obelisk have a hand in presenting this run with Tone Deaf Touring and Action PR. “Stoked” simply does not begin to describe it.

Why? Because, simply put, 1000mods are ready. It’s going to be a big change for them from what they’re used to from being on the road in Europe, the level they’re at and so on, but I honestly don’t think they’d hit the States at all if they weren’t looking to make a habit of it. Anything’s possible and this could be a one-time thing, but either way, as they support their strongest work yet on 2016’s Repeated Exposure To… (review here), they seem primed for the embrace of a new audience. Also just announced for Hellfest Open Air in France next June, they’re already veterans multiple times over of the Desertfests and have crisscrossed Europe in admirable fashion for years now. It’s great to imagine them doing the same thing in America and once again building their audience from the ground up as organically as they have elsewhere.

Kudos to the band for taking on the task, and thanks to them as well as to Tone Deaf and Action for letting this site be involved in any way at all. Support on the run comes alternately from Sierra and Telekinetic Yeti. Celebrated Heavy Psych Group to Bring Electric Live Set to Western Hemisphere for First Time in Decade-Plus Career

Esteemed Greek heavy rockers 1000mods have announced their first-ever North American tour dates in the form of a winter, 2018 headlining tour. Set to launch on February 2 in Mexico City, the 29 city major market trek will run through March 5 in Brooklyn, NY, showcasing a group with a worldwide fan base that is hailed for its astute professionalism, resounding hooks and highly energetic live performances. 1000mods will visit North America as part of its current world tour and in support of its most recent album, ‘Repeated Exposure To…’ Support on the 1000mods tour will be provided by Canada’s Sierra and Iowa’s Telekinetic Yeti.

1000mods, Repeated Exposure To… (2016)

After traipsing and stomping their way around the US earlier this Spring for a two-leg tour, Sweden’s chief fuzz exports Truckfighters are set to do what they do best this October — come back for another round. With a companion West Coast stint to be announced, the Örebro natives his North American shores starting Oct. 6 in gorgeous Montreal as they continue to support the living crap out of 2016’s V (review here), which also marked the first licensing collaboration between their label, Fuzzorama Records, and Century Media.

Speaking of, one can’t help but wonder how much scouting for Fuzzorama‘s lineup in involved in Truckfighters taking on Midwestern duo Telekinetic Yeti as direct support for the Tone Deaf-presented run. The Iowan two-piece’s Abominable (review here) debut album was rich enough in tone that it would seem to position the band as an excellent fit for Fuzzorama if Truckfighters bassist/vocalist Oskar Cedermalm and guitarist  Niklas Källgren decided to bring them aboard. Either way, seems like a great opportunity for Telekinetic Yeti to reach an audience that should be well favorable to their thickened beardo riffery. I hope they play their asses off and do really well. That album continues to rule.

Truckfighters, Live in Glendale, CA, March 16, 2017

It’s been a busy year for desert rock legends Yawning Man up to this point. This Spring found them out alongside Swedish fuzz forerunners Truckfighters for a rare stint of US touring, and then, after playing the pre-show for Brant Bjork‘s Desert Generator festival in April, in May they headed back to Europe for a stretch of dates that included both nights of Heavy Psych Sounds‘ Sonic Ritual fest, and much more besides, taking them into June. Later this month, they play the Psycho Las Vegas pool party alongside the weighty likes of Pentagram, Conan, Goya and Sasquatch (among others), and in September and October, they’re back out once again, this time on what might be the longest stretch of domestic touring they’ve ever done. Not too shabby as regards staying productive.

Shows are presented by Tone Deaf Touring and find Yawning Man continuing to support the 2016 Lay Bare Recordings release, Historical Graffiti (review here). What’s the matter guys, couldn’t find five minutes in between all that touring to write and record a new album? Jeez. Some people.

Those keeping an eye out have been expecting another round of tour dates from Sweden’s Truckfighters since they made a point to announce ‘Leg 1’ of their US tour (info here) — which will start Jan. 18 in Somerville, Massachusetts, and feature Kings Destroy — but the fact that the West Coast run that begins March 15 features the first US dates that countrymen outfit Greenleaf have ever played seems like an added bonus. Truckfighters of course come over supporting 2016’s V (review here), while Greenleaf break this new ground heralding their Rise Above the Meadow (review here) — both highlights of the year as far as I’m concerned.

We Hunt Buffalo also join in for the Canadian dates, which you can find among the shows listed for both legs below, the tours put on by Tone Deaf. Dig it:

Guitarist Isaiah Mitchell will team up with Melbourne’s Seedy Jeezus for an Australian tour this September. In addition to playing the support slot on the run, Seedy Jeezus will also double as the backing band for Mitchell — known of course for his work in Earthless, Golden Void, Howlin’ Rain, Black Elk Medicine Band and so on — as he performs what’s been dubbed an “Under the Influence” set, featuring decades-spanning covers and some original material as well. Hardly the California-based Mitchell‘s first trip to Australia — Earthless have been more than once, he’s been with Black Elk Medicine Band, etc. — but though he’s sat in with other acts before, to the best of my knowledge this will be the first time he’s toured solo with a backing band. Hard to argue with his choice of accompaniment.

If you’re in that part of the world, note the Doomsday Fest date Sept. 30 with Acid King. That’s an easy bill to get behind.

Isaiah Mitchell (Earthless, Golden Void and Howlin Rain) on tour with Melbourne’s Seedy Jeezus; blazing a psychedelic trail across the east coast of Australia!

Isaiah Mitchell is known for creating and turning on crazy psychedelic jams into journeys that take you beyond the confines of a typical guitar solo. He has gained a reputation as one of the finest psych blues guitarists in the world from his work with Earthless, Golden Void and Howlin Rain. He has previously toured Australia numerous times with his band Earthless and also solo with the Black Elk Medicine Band. Isaiah Mitchell returns to Australia this September playing a string of shows on the east coast with buddies Seedy Jeezus.

Seedy Jeezus are a Melbourne power trio. The description of Pink Floyd meets Black Sabbath at a Jimi Hendrix Experience gig is a close description of Seedy Jeezus. The band is known for breaking off into jams that will extend and evolve the songs into new directions. The adage that no two gigs are the same applies when these guys are onstage. Seedy Jeezus have spent the last five years tearing up stages in Australia and Europe building a strong following both locally and internationally. Their debut album on Lay Bare Recordings ( Netherlands) quickly sold out and has recently been reissued on Kozmik Artifactz in Germany. They head back into the studio to record the follow up album in January 2017.

Sept 2016 Seedy Jeezus will be joining Isaiah Mitchell for his ‘ Under the Influence ‘ tour. This will give fans of Isaiah a chance to see him play songs that have influenced him as a musician since he first picked up a guitar at the age of 8. After performing their own set of blistering psych freakout, Seedy Jeezus will be Isaiah’s backing band as he works through songs from ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. He will play original material that has been rarely heard here in Australia on any of his previous tours. If you’re a fan of heavy guitar jams and great tunes then this is the gig you wont want to miss. All the shows will be up close and personal.
