Mammoth Mammoth Sign to Golden Robot Records; New Live Album Coming Soon

Posted in Whathaveyou on July 21st, 2021 by JJ Koczan

Aussie troublemakers Mammoth Mammoth have pulled back together around the lineup of vocalist Mikey Tucker, guitarist Ben Couzens, bassist Pete Bell and drummer Frank Trobbiani, signed with Golden Robot Records, and announced they’ll release a new live album later on in 2021. That’s a lot of news to pack in, but the four-piece have proven nothing if not efficient in delivering boots to ass over their years together. One assumes that sooner or later the band will return to Europe, which was their touring priority prior to the apocalypse, and the fact that Golden Robot has offices in Hamburg as well as Sydney and Melbourne (and L.A. and NYC, for that matter) would seem to support that.

Of course they’re not the only ones who’ve had to or have otherwise taken the opportunity to revamp or restrcture their existence in the last year — see also: you, me, everybody — but it should be interesting to see/hear what they do with these four players back together. They’ve never been short on volatility, yet somehow they’re plenty reliable in that.

MAMMOTH MAMMOTH REUNITE AND SIGN WITH GOLDEN ROBOT RECORDS

After spending a year in a COVID hibernation, MAMMOTH MAMMOTH have awoken from their slumber and are back, reunited with their classic line up (Frank ‘Bones Trobbiani, Ben ‘Cuz’ Couzens, Mikey Tucker and Pete Bell), to announce they have signed with global powerhouse Golden Robot Records. They are set to unleash a live album later this year, which will give fans who are currently unable to see the band in action a dose of MAMMOTH MAMMOTH live.

MAMMOTH MAMMOTH hail from the Black Spur Forest of Victoria, Australia, and proudly represent the freight-train power of Australian born and bred rock n’ roll. They describe their sound as “more awesome than God’s tits” and “patented good-time murder fuzz”.

“MAMMOTH MAMMOTH has always been an Australian, balls-out, rock n’ roll band, and we’ve proudly flown that flag in the pubs of Australia and clubs of Europe for almost 15 years. We’re pumped to be reunited and now signed with Golden Robot. They understand what we do and how we do it… and they also have their balls-out.” – MAMMOTH MAMMOTH Guitarist, Ben ‘Cuz’ Couzens

Mammoth Mammoth Announce Kreuzung out Nov. 8; New Video Posted

Posted in Whathaveyou on September 23rd, 2019 by JJ Koczan

So Mammoth Mammoth toured Europe I think twice for their last record, they recorded their new album in Germany, it has a German title, is being put out by an Austrian label, and I’m pretty sure half their lineup at this point is European. Safe to say they’ve maybe been adopted from their native Australia? As they go into their fifth LP, the ever-ready-for-festival-season four-piece seem to know where their heart lies more than ever as they look down the barrel of another string of tour dates booked for Germany. That’s right. It’s 11 shows, and they’re all in Germany. They’re even playing Rockpalast, where I have no doubt their high-energy drive will be captured on a video soon to feature in my YouTube recommends. You keep an eye out for it and I’ll do the same.

Kreuzung is the new album, and it was recorded by former Samsara Blues Experiment member Richard Behrens — also known for Heat and his work with Kadavar — and there’s a video streaming now for the title-track that you can check out at the bottom of this post if you’re up for it.

Australian High Voltage Rockers MAMMOTH MAMMOTH Reveal Album Details + Release Brand New Music Video!

Kreuzung coming November 8th on Napalm Records!

Australia’s high voltage outfit, MAMMOTH MAMMOTH, are proud to announce their, highly anticipated 5th studio album titled, Kreuzung, which is set for a release on November 8th with leading rock and metal label Napalm Records.

Recorded and produced by Richard Behrens in the winter of 2018/19 at Big Snuff Studio, Berlin, it is the first album with the new line-up consisting of original members, Mikey Tucker (vocalist) and Frank Trobbiani (drums) and introducing new members, Marco Gennaro (guitarist) and Kris Fiore (bass). The Rock`n`Roll juggernaut seized the opportunity to refine their hard-rock formula since the release of Mount The Mountain two years ago. The result is an electrifying sledgehammer that cements their name MAMMOTH MAMMOTH. Kreuzung’s (German for crossroads) hypnotic title track could crush a beer can with it’s sheer soundwave force, try it out and watch their brand new video for the album title track HERE!

In January 2017, the band found themselves at a crossroads. Already committed to two European tours, including their first visit to Spain and Portugal plus a large number of shows on the summer festival circuit, original guitarist Ben Couzens and bassist Pete Bell were unable to perform those ongoing commitments. In order for MAMMOTH MAMMOTH to honour those shows, Tucker and Trobbiani needed to find replacement musicians to continue to bring the high-energy, beer- soaked, dirty-rock shows to their loyal fan base.

Inspired by new surroundings, Tucker, Trobbiani, Gennaro and Fiore holed themselves up in Rock Haus, Berlin in 2018 and crafted the new album together whilst searching for a new producer. Someone who would both challenge and nurture their new line-up. Tucker says on working with Richard, “I wanted to introduce a new sound, something a little more vintage sounding. I was tired of listening to rock albums that were so overly produced they’d lost all their soul. I stumbled upon Big Snuff Studio and really liked the work they were doing with Kadavar.” Trobbiani adds, “Writing and recording ‘Kreuzung’ in Berlin has been a refreshing change, the collaborative process made the whole experience killer and we can’t wait to play it live to everyone.” Kreuzung, signifies where the band had found themselves in 2017, somewhere between the past, the present and the future. This album proves that the gritty Rock`n`Roll manifesto of MAMMOTH MAMMOTH has truly evolved and they know exactly where they’re heading next.

Kreuzung Tracklisting:
1. I’m Ready
2. Wanted Man
3. Motherf@cker
4. Screamin´
5. Kreuzung
6. Tear it Down
7. Tonight
8. Mad World
9. Let Go
10. Lead Boots
11. God´s Gonna Hate Me

Kreuzung will be available on LP, CD and in Digital formats, the pre-sale has just started at THIS LOCATION!

Known for their intense high-energy and beer-soaked Rock`n`Roll live shows, MAMMOTH MAMMOTH will be hitting the road again this Fall, with a heavy touring schedule to follow:
14.11.2019 DE Köln – MTC
15.11.2019 DE Frankfurt – Das Bett

Freak Valley 2017 Completes Lineup: Earthless, Mammoth Mammoth, Church of the Cosmic Skull & Green Orbit Added

Posted in Whathaveyou on April 3rd, 2017 by JJ Koczan

freak valley 2017 lineup

And just like that, the lineup for Freak Valley 2017 is finished. The final four? Earthless, Mammoth Mammoth, Church of the Cosmic Skull and Green Orbit. Both Earthless and Green Orbit will be celebrating releases on the fest-affiliated Rock Freaks Records — a live album in Earthless‘ case, a studio debut for Green Orbit, which, from the description below, I’d be very interested in hearing — and Mammoth Mammoth‘s new record will be out by June as well as Church of the Cosmic Skull, whose first album, Is Satan Real? (review here), was among the best debuts of 2016.

Kudos to Freak Valley 2017 on another stellar lineup of bands. From Slo Burn and Ufomammut to Asteroid and OrangoGeezer and Elephant Tree, it’s a sick bill that, even in its final announcement, has set me once more to daydreaming about a trip to Siegen, Germany, this June.

One day.

Here’s word from the fest:

freak valley 2017 last adds

FREAK VALLEY FESTIVAL 2017 lineup is final now!!

Here are the last 4 bands:

Mighty Earthless will be back and will play an exclusive European show!! This will be the release show for their new album “Live at Freak Valley 2015” – Released by Rock Freaks Records.

Our Aussie buddies MAMMOTH MAMMOTH will finally join our Fest.

You will have the privilege to be part of the first ever European mainland show of Church of the Cosmic Skull !!

2 Rock Freaks crew members play in Green Orbit. You’ll be more than surprised when you enjoy them live on stage!!

Formed in 2001, EARTHLESS prides itself on creating energetic, utterly unique and free thinking instrumental music inspired by an eclectic mix of German krautrock and Japanese heavy blues-rock. The Californian trio has dedicated itself to mastery of the mind-bending jam session, evoking the spirits of Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath in equal measure.

Named after a song title from vintage New York garage-psych band The Druids of Stonehenge, EARTHLESS’ sound has been called “A sonic kaleidoscope of lava and lightning”, earning it the title of “California’s loudest band”. The group delivers “one of the best live shows in all of modern, heavy rock,” leading to one reviewer stating that the band’s “epic shredding harkens back to the days were psychedelic rock had balls the size of grapefruits and wasn’t afraid to take its listeners on a ride for which they may never return.”

MAMMOTH MAMMOTH are a heavy rock band from Melbourne Australia that smash the shit out of their stoner, glam, doom, punk and psychedelic rock influences. Their first video clip was immediately banned. It used 1970s European pornography and was pulled from youtube, myspace and facebook – but not before it had over 1 million views and probably as many complaints.

In this early 2017, MAMMOTH MAMMOTH emerge from the studio with a new album locked, loaded and ready to fire! Again, the recording was not without the usual disturbances that plague this foursome. Yes the police came (and not to jam a few tunes). Yes, there was a chemical fire. And yes, a little voodoo was practised. And okay, the bass player did barely survive a motorcycle crash juste before the final tracking. But nothing short of Armageddon was gonna stop MAMMOTH MAMMOTH from getting this job done.

CHURCH OF THE COSMIC SKULL is a twofold entity: a new religious movement who seek to free mankind from their material possessions and unify all living beings into a singular cosmic whole; and a 7-piece supergroup based in Nottingham UK playing Prog/Psych/’70s Rock/Pop. For fans of Black Mountain, Ghost, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Uncle Acid and the deadbeats. The combination of guitar, hammond organ, electric cello, bass and drums recalls early @Mahavishnu Orchestra, but with six-part Queen-esque vocal harmonies and Thin Lizzy pop-rock structures.

Hailing from the deep woods near Siegen/Germany, Green Orbit will bring you their instrumental heavy psychrock. Warm fuzz sounds, sweetly interlaced with psychedelic vibes, tied together by energetic drums and surrounded by the floating sounds of a didgeridoo(m), their music will take you to another galactic home.

Musical Influences like Colour Haze, Rotor, Sungrazer and many more melt together into a heavy-groovy space-trip. Green Orbit’s debut-album “First Wave”, which already received positive reviews from all over the world, will be released in May 2017 on Rock Freaks Records.

Mammoth Mammoth Set April 28 Release for Mount the Mountain

Posted in Whathaveyou on February 3rd, 2017 by JJ Koczan

Always ready with a riff that just seems to stink of hooch, Mammoth Mammoth have announced an April 28 release for their fifth album, Mount the Mountain, via Napalm Records. That timing puts the Aussie boozehounds in Europe — they were announced last month as taking part in Desertfest Berlin 2017 (info here), which is running that same weekend — and as that’s an awfully long way to travel for one gig and they’re no strangers to the road in general, I’d expect more tour-date announcements to follow between now and April. We’ve got the tracklisting, cover art and release date locked in until then.

Speaking of, if you want to see the definitely-NSFW cover art for Mount the Mountain, click here. Here’s more info from the PR wire:

MAMMOTH MAMMOTH Unveil First Details About Brand New Album!

Cover, Track Listing And Release Date Announced!

Your favorite dirt rockers from Australia, MAMMOTH MAMMOTH are back to deliver another powerful addition to their impressive list of prior heavy rock’n’roll convictions!

Over the course of their career, MAMMOTH MAMMOTH have already left a stamp on the music scene and have proved to be one of Australia’s hottest and heaviest rock exports. Now the 4-piece band, well-known for their unique and energetic live shows which are fronted by the charismatic vocalist Mikey Tucker, unveil first details about the bands upcoming 4th studio album titled, Mount The Mountain, set to be released April 28th 2017 on Napalm Records.

Eleven power tracks that threaten to blow your mind, MAMMOTH MAMMOTH yet again deliver stompers that will lead us blindfolded into a hellish inferno of psyched-out riffs and debauched, fist-pumping anthems.

“We consider the writing of our albums not unlike working on a top fuelling drag car. We tinker around a bit, we strip the engine down to rebuild it by adding a couple new parts whilst taking some out, always trying to make it run faster and sounding louder, this time though we’ve added a bigger exhaust system and a shitload of nitrous …and a cup holder”, comments front man Mikey Tucker.

The track listing for MAMMOTH MAMMOTH’s Mount The Mountain will read as follows:

1. Mount The Mountain
2. Spellbound
3. Hole In The Head
4. Kickin’ My Dog
5. Procrastination
6. Sleep Walker
7. Epitome
8. Hard Way Down
9. Wild And Dead
10. Cold Liquor
11. I Cant Get You Out Of My Head ( Bonus Track )

Mount The Mountain will be coming as a CD Digi Pack, Digital Download and LP Gatefold on April 28th 2017 on Napalm Records.

Desertfest Berlin 2017: Saint Vitus to Headline; Venue Expansion Announced

Posted in Whathaveyou on January 13th, 2017 by JJ Koczan

As doom legends Saint Vitus join Sleep and John Garcia in headlining, things seem to still just be heating up for Desertfest Berlin 2017. The reason I say so is the fest has just announced plans to expand beyond the Astra Kulturhaus for the first time in its five-year history. It will now incorporate multiple spaces in RAW, including two other clubs near to the Astra at which affiliated shows will be hosted put on by local promoters. Pretty awesome news, quite frankly, and it gives those fortunate enough to be in attendance even more options for how to spend their time as Desertfest gradually takes over the whole area for the weekend.

The fest made the announcement thusly:

desertfest-berlin-2017-first-poster

Desertfest Berlin 2017 We go BIGGER and BETTER: additional Venues / SAINT VITUS to Headline

2017 – DESERTFEST will conquer all of RAW !

That means, for all of you who don’t know, the wonderful RAW-Area where our main venue ASTRA is located. It is a former GDR train maintenance station with lots of now newly populated old factory buildings, lots of space to play and street art to enjoy. It means you get to roam freely in and outside of the Astra and go out and explore, as we will expand the festival to three more additional venues! Of course the traditionalists can enjoy the full program, eat & drink and get wild without leaving the premises – our main stage, our foyer stage, bingo-bongo bar and the beloved beergarden.

We are super stoked to have the venues CASSIOPEIA, URBAN SPREE and BADEHAUS BERLIN with us on board – three amazing clubs in three minute walking distance from Astra that will host special parties and more concerts. The events there will be curated by underground labels and promoters which we will introduce to you with several postings in the weeks to come.

Desertfest Berlin 2017 will feature more than 50 bands in total !!!

Also be prepared to welcome very special known people who are trading their instruments with turntables and deliver you exclusive DJ Sets!

In order to make things more fun we are forced to raise the ticket prices a tiny bit. But have no fear – until February 1st, you can still buy Tickets for 85 € (visit our Website, or use the links below in this release). After that, the weekend pass will be 95 €. We hope you like the news of our expanding ideas and you are looking forward to celebrate the biggest and best DESERTFEST ever ;)

SAINT VITUS TO HEADLINE DESERTFEST BERLIN 2017

On top of that great news, we are thrilled to tell you that SAINT VITUS will be our third headliner for this 2017 edition, alongside SLEEP and JOHN GARCIA ! BONGZILLA, STONED JESUS, MAMMOTH MAMMOTH and ODD COUPLE are also added to this year’s line-up !

SAINT VITUS (USA)
Los Angeles titans Saint Vitus are over 36 years-strong and still bleeding black… Coming from the same school as Trouble or Pentagram, they are praised as one of the original instigators of doom metal. Even through the turmoil of personnel changes and re-formations, Saint Vitus have always held a position of respect in the underground heavy rock scene, and we are proud to have them headlining Desertfest Berlin 2017!!

BONGZILLA (USA)
Before virtually any of these new jacks started claiming “weed metal” or anything of the like, there was Wisconsin’s Bongzilla. Formed in 1995 and devoted to all things green, the band infuses its homegrown, psychedelic sludge sound with a distinctive Southern feel. After several releases and lineup transformations, the band went on hiatus in the late 00s. But since 2015, Bongzilla are back to deliver their stoned out, tuned down, Sabbath inspired stoned music to the world, and have proven that their live shows are not to be missed!

STONED JESUS (UKR)
It’s been half a decade since Ukrainian heavy trio released their second album, “Seven Thunders Roar”, and it would be hard to imagine they had any idea the audience it would find back then. This year at Desertfest Berlin, to mark the fifth anniversary of “Seven Thunders Roar”, Stoned Jesus will perform a set featuring their most famous album in its entirety!! They are at work on new material as well, so keep an eye out for more updates!

MAMMOTH MAMMOTH (AUS)
Melbourne’s Mammoth Mammoth just emerged from the studio with a new album locked, loaded and ready to fire! Again, the recording was not without the usual disturbances that plague this foursome. Yes the police came (and not to jam a few tunes). Yes, there was a chemical fire. And yes, a little voodoo was practiced. And okay, the bass player did barely survive a motorcycle crash just before the final tracking. But nothing short of Armageddon was gonna stop MM from getting the job done and to launch this new album at Desertfest Berlin!!

ODD COUPLE (GER)
Odd Couple are a Berlin duo with guitars, drums and hands. Together they play a fast paced, sweaty rock ‘n’ roll, wwhere it dwho is playing which instrument, it’s all about setting a room on fire – with limited resources. Another new edition of the Black Keys formula? Not at all!

Previously confirmed for this year’s DESERTFEST BERLIN: SLEEP, JOHN GARCIA & BAND (playing songs from Kyuss to Slo Burn), SAMSARA BLUES EXPERIMENT, MARS RED SKY, LOWRIDER, 1000MODS, TOUNDRA, ECSTATIC VISION, SUMA, THE COSMIC DEAD, PONTIAK, TUBER, SATAN’S SATYRS, WUCAN, VENOMOUS MAXIMUS, THE WELL, GOLD, RIFF FIST, TSCHAIKA 21/16.

Mammoth Mammoth Premiere “Sick (of Being Sick)” Video

Posted in Bootleg Theater on October 5th, 2016 by JJ Koczan

mammoth-mammoth

Everyone’s favorite Australian fuel-injected suicide machine — aka Melbourne’s Mammoth Mammoth — are back, and after riffing on The Decline of Western Civilzation Part II: The Metal Years in one video (premiered here) and heading out to the middle of nowhere for a bit of drunken wallowing in another (premiered here), they’re ready to unveil the next one in their series of videos taken from their 2015 album, IV: Hammered Again, released by Napalm Records. Enter “Sick (of Being Sick).”

Following the other two, each of which has its own distinct vibe (if you don’t believe me, click the links above and check them out; Soundcloud streams fade, but YouTube clips are forever), “Sick (of Being Sick)” affirms two crucial things about Mammoth Mammoth that we learned once more on IV: Hammered Again. First, they can make a hook out of just about anything. Second, they’re an absolute riot on stage. The footage for “Sick (of Being Sick)” comes from shows on their latest trip to Europe and the UK earlier this year, and from tearing it up on stage to dancing in the crowd, Mammoth Mammoth make it perfectly clear that a choice rock show is being delivered front to back. Hard to argue, so I won’t try.

Happy as always to host a premiere from these cats, who break their collective ass on the road and are happy to kick everyone else’s in so doing. More info on the gigs and album follows the clip below, courtesy of the PR wire.

Enjoy:

Dirty Heavy Rock from Down Under!

A naked, pot-smoking beauty on the cover and song titles like ‘Hammered again’ or ‘High as a kite’ – Mammoth Mammoth definitely won`t turn a good party down! The scruffy Australians deliver the soundtrack mixing dirty hard rock with a healthy dose of stoner: Volume IV – Hammered Again comes roaring down the highway with lotsa fuzz, a raw production and pure force! That`s why this four-piece is called Mammoth Mammoth – one mammoth ain’t enough for this massive orgy…

My Sleeping Karma, Greenleaf and Mammoth Mammoth Team up for Up in Smoke Vol. VI Roadfestival

Posted in Whathaveyou on November 2nd, 2015 by JJ Koczan

As the name might lead you to believe, Up in Smoke Vol. VI is sixth installment of the roadfestival (package tour) put on by respected show purveyors Sound of Liberation, and it brings together the varied but universally heavy likes of My Sleeping Karma, Greenleaf and Mammoth Mammoth early in 2016 for a run through Belgium, France, the UK, Switzerland, Germany and Austria.

For Greenleaf, by the time they get there, they will have spent a good portion of the last several months on the road. A heavy touring 2015 rounds out next month with a Northern European stint, followed by New Year’s shows in Germany and Switzerland, and after that, they’ll head to Portugal and Spain for an Iberian tour Jan. 15 to Jan. 24. Their new album — which will be their Napalm debut — has been recorded since June, so it may well have seen release by the time they hit Up in Smoke Vol. VI. An early 2016 release seems likely either way.

My Sleeping Karma and Mammoth Mammoth also have been and remain active. Mammoth Mammoth toured Europe this year and My Sleeping Karma recently played the Keep it Low festival in Munich. Both had new records out in 2015 on Napalm as well, so they seem like a fitting match for the tour, which kicks off at Trix in Antwerpen on Feb. 18.

Mammoth Mammoth Premiere “Fuel Injected” Video

Posted in Bootleg Theater on July 2nd, 2015 by JJ Koczan

mammoth mammoth fuel injected

I’ll tell you flat out because I think it makes going into listening to the song that much more enjoyable: The hook of “Fuel Injected” by Mammoth Mammoth is, “I’m a fuel injected suicide machine/And I’m built for speed.” At an efficient 4:34, the track also packs in the gem of a verse:

I eat angel dust for breakfast
Then I microwave the cat
No better way to start the day
I can tell you that

And I’m sorry, but if you don’t think that’s fucking brilliant, we’ll just have to agree to disagree. True, this is the second video premiere the troublemaking Melbourne four-piece have brought to bear via this site, but what the hell? If giving a fuck was the order of the day, Mammoth Mammoth probably wouldn’t be involved in the first place. And though they’re inclined to wreck up the joint in booze-and-whatever-else-fueled fervor, it’s well worth having to vacuum afterwards, particularly as the new video comes just a few days before the start of Mammoth Mammoth‘s European tour supporting their latest album, Volume IV – Hammered Again, on Napalm Records.

The clip for “Fuel Injected” is somewhat less conceptual than “Lookin’ Down the Barrel” (premiere here), which played off the classic documentary The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years. This time around, Mammoth Mammoth — the lineup of vocalist Mikey Tucker, guitarist Ben Couzens, bassist Pete Bell and drummer Frank Trobbiani — are out somewhere in the desert, kicking ass in a dilapidated-looking wood shack of one sort or another. And where “Lookin’ Down the Barrel” was somewhat overwhelmed by the visuals that came with it — by that I mean it was fucking hilarious to the point of distraction — “Fuel Injected” gives the song a bit more room to shine.

Mammoth Mammoth‘s visit to Europe starts July 8 in Berlin with their labelmates in The Midnight Ghost Train. That’s gonna be a raucous show if ever there was one. Full list of dates follows the video below.
