Lake on Fire 2017 Sold Out; Brant Bjork, Ufomammut, Elder, Acid King & More to Play

Austria-based festival Lake on Fire 2017 — which, yes, takes place on a lake and which, yes, looks totally frickin’ awesome as a result — sold out in a matter of minutes earlier this week after putting tickets on sale. The lineup is splendid with Brant Bjork headlining a bill that also includes Asteroid, Elder, Ufomammut, Acid King, Sasquatch, Rotor, and others, but you want to know something even more impressive about it? The full lineup hasn’t even been announced yet. What you see below, with Tides from Nebula, Weedpecker, King Buffalo, Triptonus and all that? Yeah, they’re not even done yet.

Next time you’re searching for an example of how unbelievably righteous the festival scene is in Europe, go ahead and consider Lake on Fire 2017, which offers camping and hotel options, a unique setting, killer bands, and a clientele that trusts it enough to completely buy up all the tickets before the full lineup has been unveiled. My minescule American brain boggles at the thought. Not that I’ve been Mr. Goestoshows lately or anything, but if you’re also from the States, consider the cultural richness at work in making something like this come together in the way it has. It’s astounding. I can’t even get bands to return my emails about playing an All-Dayer a year from now.

Go figure.

Lowrider to Headline Lake on Fire 2016

Today, Austrian festival Lake on Fire 2016 announces its second headliner will be Swedish heavy rockers Lowrider. It’s been a minute or two since the reformed four-piece were last heard from, and though they’ve been teasing the prospect of new recordings and new material for a while now, concrete word of a release to follow-up their landmark 2000 debut, Ode to Io, has yet to surface. They join Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats at the top of the two-night bill for the fest, which takes place in Waldhausen at a lakeside campsite and is already sold out. Because it’s lakeside riffing, and I don’t think I’ve ever met anybody who doesn’t think that’s an awesome idea. I know I do. Frankly, the fest should be sold out on principle alone.

But hey, if you want an extra dose of awesome, Lowrider will most certainly provide that. Wonder if they’ll play new material.

Lake on Fire 2016: Causa Sui, Gomer Pyle and Savanah Added to Lineup

Austria’s Lake on Fire festival marks its fifth anniversary with Lake on Fire 2016 this Aug. 5-6. Held at a gorgeous lakeside campground in Waldhausen, it looks to be a pretty amazing setting for some dead-on heavy. With the proceeds from each year donated to charity, this year began its lineup announcements with Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats and The Flying Eyes and continues this week with Causa Sui, a Gomer Pyle reunion and Savanah. Last year’s bill had 14 acts, so it seems fair to expect Lake on Fire 2016 isn’t quite halfway there in terms of its final roster of bands, but as you can see, they’re doing just fine as it is.

There’s a video of clips from last year’s fest, and if you look at some of the photos from their website as well, it seems like a stunning way to enjoy some rock and roll:

Causa Sui – band page (DK/Heavy Psych)
During the last years this band only played a very few shows, therefore we are beyond stoked that we can offer you this rare occasion at LOF2016. In our opinion this band shares the European throne with the almighty Colour Haze when it comes to Psychedelic Rock! A new record will be released as well!

Gomer Pyle (NL/Stoner Psychedelic)
A very special one for us, as Gomer Pyle was one of the first bands which introduced us to the mesmerizing world of Stoner & Psych Rock back in the days. Unfortunately, they disbanded five years ago, however, the guys will start their engine again for a high anticipated reunion show at LOF2016.

Savanah(AUT/Stoner Rock)
One of the most promising Austrian acts of the last years. Their recent EP “Deep Shades” gained very good reviews all over Europe and the band’s aggressive style of Stoner/Psych and Doom will be perfect enough to shake the floating stage to the ground.
