UK outfits Lacertilia and Cybernetic Witch Cult have teamed up for a run through their native land that’s on now and will run through Oct. 30. Shows started this past weekend in London and the as-Welsh-sounding-as-it-is Merthyr Tydfil (I honestly don’t know how there’s a word in the Welsh language without a black metal band named after it) and find Lacertilia supporting their 2016 release, We’re Already Inside Your Mind, which came out at the end of July on Red Sound Records, while Cybernetic Witch Cult in May issued their second full-length, Spaceous Cretaceous, as the rhyme-consistent follow-up to their 2015 debut, Morlock Rock.

Respect to a couple outfits who’ve very clearly taken it upon themselves to get out and spread the word about what they’re doing for what’s sure to be a week off work and away from whatever other obligations real life might present to them. This is the kind of stint that doesn’t happen unless people really believe in their work.

Cybernetic Witch Cult are a groovacious metal trio from Cornwall who take their influences from Doom metal, 70s rock, stoner rock, space rock and science fiction/horror B movies. A serious band with a fun outlook on music, the lyrics tell stories of invasions, time travel, space and cult horror, the riffs are grandiose and the drums are pounding.

UK heavy psych rockers Lacertilia will release their debut, We’re Already Inside Your Mind, on July 29. Due out through Red Sun Sounds, the album follows last year’s Crashing into the Future EP, which found the band working in a post-Steak vein of desert influence but bringing their own swirling twist to the style as well, leaving space in their songs for the driving riffs to melt away into hypnotic jams, almost Naam-esque in how utterly liquefied they became. They also recently played Hellfest 2016 in France, which is pretty good for a band still waiting to release their first record, what with the thousands of people in attendance and whatnot.

We’re Already Inside Your Mind was recorded at One Louder Studios in Newport by Phillip Smith (Hogslayer, Haasts Eagled), and mastered by Joe Gibb (Jane’s Addiction, Depeche Mode). Intent on capturing their live sound in the studio – a mix of primal rock ‘n’ roll energy, heavy psychedelia and sludgy groove rock, with nods to proto-punk, 60?s psych, 70?s heavy rock, the free festival movement and contemporary stoner and doom – LACERTILIA have created a rich melting pot of sonic indulgence that takes the listener on a journey. UK’s heavy rock scene continues to reshape itself and grow. Trippy Wicked and the Cosmic Children of the Knight, who haven’t been heard from much since 2013’s Underground EP (review here), have joined forces with Wizard Fight and Lacertilia to hit the road for a handful of shows next weekend in England, hitting Cardiff, Bristol, Manchester for the Noiz All-Dayer, which also features Groan, Alunah, Chubby Thunderous Bad Kush Masters and Monolith Cult, among others, and closing out in London. They’re calling the long weekender “Carry on Tripping,” but really, whatever they wanted to call it, it’s heavy.

Wizard Fight
Formed in 2012 by Luke Bolton (ROTS) and former Steak drummer of 7 years, Dan Kinsey. They set out as a two piece to play insanely sludgey filth with a good measure of Doom and a wee bit of hazy Stoner groove. Early 2013 see the addition of Dave on bass adding the much needed earth shaking guts needed to add to the Wizard Fight sound.

Lacertilia are a tripped out rock n roll machine from South Wales that brings together the manic stomp and wild stage performance of The Stooges, the fuzzy desert sounds of Kyuss, the weird psychedelic frequencies of The 13th Floor Elevators and the proto doom of Pentagram.

Trippy Wicked, “Hillbilly Moonshine” Live in Newcastle under Lyme

Kudos to the UK’s Snuff Lane Promotions on their first anniversary, which they’ll celebrate in style this weekend in Bristol by bringing Swedish bashers Skraeckoedlan over for their first ever show in England, headlining a huge bill that’s been dubbed the Riffslingers Bash. Rightly so with Grifter, Old Man Lizard, Ten Foot Wizard, Lacertilia, Mother Corona, Earthmass, Beggar, Wren and Cybernetic Witch Cult in the lineup — I’m not really sure what else you’d call such a thing, and while I’ll readily admit that I’m a little bummed out I haven’t yet heard the new Skraeckoedlan album, Sagor, which seems to be out now, I can still heartily support showing up to wherever they might be to check out a set. I’m sure they’ll bring it to Stag and Hounds in Bristol as they headline. Not much choice in the matter, with the company they’re keeping.

Snuff Lane Promotions is celebrating its one year anniversary with a debut all-day party. Headlining the celebration with an exclusive UK performance will be Swedish fuzzience fiction rockers Skraeckoedlan, who’ll be making their first appearance in the United Kingdom in support of their new release ‘Sagor’.

Snuff Lane are also delighted to be showcasing some of the UK’s finest dirty, doomy, fuzzed-up, psych-prog, stoner rock, sonic maestros known to mankind. I’m happy to report that of all the podcasts I’ve ever put together, front to back, I think this one came together the smoothest. No programs crashed, no uploads were interrupted halfway through. Unless I click “Publish” and the internet eats this entire site, it’s safe to say this was the easiest time I’ve had putting together a collection of tracks to be featured here. Could it be I’m getting better at it? Nah. Dumb luck all the way. As I recall, last time I said something of the sort, the next month my editing software crapped out and it was a year before I got another program that worked. You’d think I might learn to keep my mouth shut.

Keeping current with this month was something of a concern. It’s hard to fill out 2015 releases since we’re only a month into the year, but even if some of this stuff is 2014, it’s later 2014 for sure, and the vast majority of it did wind up being 2015. The second hour, which has become a sort of psych blissout over the last however-many podcasts, actually gets pretty heavy and doomed this time around. Change is good for the soul.
