I wondered last week when perusing Kamchatka‘s UK and European tour dates if the Swedish trio might not also end up on one or the other of the Desertfests, and it seems they’re headed to Berlin. Apparently since the last time I looked, Baby Woodrose also got added, which is awesome. The Desertfest Berlin 2015 lineup might be the strongest one yet, and it’s been interesting to watch — from an unfortunate distance — as the London and Berlin incarnations of the festival each grow their own personality. Both have a broadening reach, and yet they’re clearly becoming different entities, which when one takes into account the expansion of the brand to Belgium and potentially beyond that — because why not? — it should make the next couple years even more intriguing to see where it all goes.

These are the things one has to think about when one can’t just say things like, “Golly, I can’t wait to see Kamchatka at Desertfest!” One of these years, I’ll get to Berlin or back to London. For now, here’s the announcement of Kamchatka joining the lineup:

Here comes a new band: the Swedish trio KAMCHATKA is now confirmed for DESERTFEST BERLIN 2015!

Formed in Varberg in 2001, KAMCHATKA provide an explosive mixture of Stoner-, Hard-, 70’s-, Retro-, Psychedelic- and Bluesrock. Their first self-titled album came out on January 2005 via New York based indie label Grooveyard Records, followed in 2007 by “Volume II”.

During their first years, they played gigs here and there in Sweden, opening for Clutch a couple of times, who finally invited KAMCHATKA to join them on their 2008 US-Tour! It gave the guys their first opportunity to proove themselves to the American audience. After 21 successful performances, KAMCHATKA returned back home to complete “Volume III”, released in March 2009 via Swedish label Superpuma Records. In November 2009, the trio was once again invited by Clutch to open for them, this time on a month long tour of 23 gigs throughout western Europe.

With their amazing fifth album “The Search Goes On” (released on Despotz Records in February 2014) in the pocket, KAMCHATKA will make your booty move at DESERTFEST BERLIN in April! We are thrilled to have them on board!

Kamchatka, “Ain’t Fallin'”

With their new album in the can, Swedish blues rock trio Kamchatka have headed out on a new round of European tour dates. I’m not sure when the record will be out — I could tell you later this year, which is pretty much the same as saying “ever” — but the tour is underway now, and Snuff Lane, which is presenting the three UK headlining shows, has announced the support acts. In addition to Germany’s Coogans Bluff, who’ll join up with Kamchatka fresh off a round of gigs with Spidergawd, the likes of Baron Greenback and newcomer Dopefight-offshoot Chubby Thunderous Bad Kush Masters will open shows.

A night of psychedelic stoner rock – with unique blends of fuzz, blues, funk, jazz and soul – is coming to the UK this March.

Snuff Lane Promotions proudly presents Swedish Power-Trio Kamchatka’s first ever headline tour, following their highly successful one-off London headline show last September.
Drawing influence and inspiration from blues rock bands of the 60’s and 70’s, Swedish power-trio Kamchatka have created a sound that invokes blues, stoner and psychedelic rock.

Snuff Lane are also delighted to add the debut UK appearance of German jazz-rock hybrid Coogans Bluff to the tour, whose latest album ‘Getting Dizzy’ was released in March 2014.
As part of this three date tour, Kamchatka will host a FREE show at The Unicorn in Camden on Tuesday 18 March.

This free London event will also be showcasing a debut performance by the heavily anticipated Chubby Thunderous Bad Kush Masters, comprised of members from Dopefight, Grey Widow, Witchfist and Mama Moonshine, these tye-dye metal stoners will be reigning their throbbing chubby fuzz for the FIRST TIME EVER in support of Kamchatka.

Kamchatka, “Ain’t Fallin'”

Headlining in the UK for the first time, Swedish trio Kamchatka have announced a show Sept. 19 at The Black Heart in Camden Town, London, on Sept. 19. The three-piece released their fifth album, The Search Goes On, earlier this year on Despotz Records and boast the formidable presence of Per Wiberg in their ranks. Their last stop off in the UK was at the 2012 Download festival, and their resume also boasts an opening slot for Clutch, whose drummer Jean-Paul Gaster is a former collaborator.

I’ll grant that Camden is a long ways away for me to be plugging a show, but I’ve been to that venue as a part of Desertfest and met the people who run it and found them to be exceedingly welcoming, and the room upstairs where bands play is badass. I can think of an infinite number of less pleasant ways to spend an evening, so yeah, it’s not the most geographically central place for me to note a gig happening, but I think the circumstance warrants the mention.
