Linie Post “Blood on Your Arms” Video

As pissed off as they are progressive, and vice versa, Hamburg five-piece Linie released their debut, What We Make Our Demons Do (review here), last summer. It’s a record charged with aggression, but that keeps a keen, metallic eye toward presenting that aggression in thoughtful ways. The track “Blood on Your Arms” was the de facto opener of the outing following the aptly-titled “Intro,” and it set the tone for darker atmospheres and crispness of songcraft that played out across the release as a whole, tracks like “Chewing Gum” and “No Ideal” pushing in their own direction but keeping the central moodiness consistent to one degree or another.

The video for “Blood on Your Arms” follows suit. Following the album’s “Intro,” we find the band in the woods thrashing out on what looks like it was a pretty cold day. Essentially a performance clip, but, you know, outside, it’s just gray enough to be consistent with the album’s overall vibe, and it highlights one of the most memorable hooks on offer with Linie‘s first outing, which if you haven’t heard it is available through Bandcamp as a download, CD, LP, tape-in-a-wood-box and so on, as well as some of the electronic elements at play across the songs that follow. You can dig in for yourself and find out what I mean.

“Blood on Your Arms” can be viewed below, followed by some comment from the band. Enjoy:

“Blood On Your Arms” was one of the first songs we wrote for “What We Make Our Demons Do”. For us the song still has a certain undertow and a mood which represents our sound in a very appropriate way. Lyrically “Blood On Your Arms” is about fear, human chasms, mortality and the threat of losing yourself.

?inie brings together what is meant to be together in their microcosm. In-your-face riffing with Jörn Wulff’s distinctive organ, 101% pissed-ness plus a healthy appetite for destruction are they key elements – all of that exists equally in the dead water of a pulsating, buzzing electro-limb.
