Mancub Premiere “Gambler” Video

This past weekend — yup, the one that just happened — Calgary heavy rock van enthusiasts Mancub (also stylized with “man” in all-caps, as though to further emphasize the dudeliness) played a release show for their new video for the track “Gambler.” If that seems a little overboard, I encourage you to take the plunge and check out the digital premiere of the same clip below. It’s not a rehearsal-space performance clip, or a live gig with album audio overlaid. It’s cinematic. It has a narrative. It very clearly took more than two weeks to make. They blow up a car at the end. Putting it together was clearly not a minor undertaking. After watching “Gambler,” a release party for it kind of makes sense. Bands have played shows for less.

The song comes from Mancub‘s 2015 full-length debut, Hangman, and while one might expect to some degree for the band to feed off the increasingly-prevalent party-heavy vibe of the Pacific Northwest, as heard from cities like Seattle, Portland and Vancouver, Mancub — guitarist/vocalists Sean Doherty and Trenton Bullard, bassist Dean Kneeshaw and drummer Kevin Ross — they seem to be far enough inland to be on a different trip, while still keeping a strong songwriting focus as “Gambler” demonstrates. I won’t give away too much about the plot for the video, but in production and production value, it’s well worth watching, and the interplay of Bullard and Doherty on vocals adds to the individualized feel in the track’s heavy push.

Clip is by Ramble Productions. Enjoy:

Mancub, “Gambler” official video

When you think spaghetti western you don’t normally think of 3 flats of prego and vat of spaghetti noodles. But with MANcub’s music video for their track ‘Gambler’ that’s exactly what you get.

MANcubs debut LP Hangman, is a tale about a ex- con who seeks revenge on a old group of bandits he used to ride with. And thanks to the video wizardry of Sean Edwards at Ramble Productions, Gambler is the visual vessel in which we get to see that man’s journey. Most importantly, we get the to answer a life long question, what effect does 5lbs of tannerite have on a Volvo station wagon?
