What strikes me most immediately about Heavy Psych Sounds‘ just-announced forthcoming 4-Way Split Vol. 2 is that I want to hear it. Past that, it’s impressive how the label has clearly followed-up 2014’s 4-Way Split Vol. 1 (review here) while also changing the underlying theme of the release. Last time around, it was a contest to see who could push farthest into the cosmos between Naam, Black Rainbows, White Hills and The Flying Eyes. Now we’ll discover who’s got the most righteous shuffle between The Golden Grass, Killer Boogie, Wild Eyes SF and Banquet. I’m stoked to find out.

The release is out April 29 on Heavy Psych Sounds (duh) and there will be CDs in addition to limited vinyl and digital versions. Presales start Feb. 15. As it happens, I wrote the text for the announcement, but you can see it below in blue, circled back through from the label’s post:

After spacing out fiercely on the first volume of the HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS 4-WAY SPLIT, it’s time to hit the ground running! The HPS 4-WAY SPLIT VOL. 2 brings funked-out ‘70s boogie down the highway with heavy hitters WILD EYES SF, recent HPS-signees BANQUET, Brooklyn sunshine rockers THE GOLDEN GRASS and fuzz traditionalists KILLER BOOGIE.

All four bands bring a fresh sound to classic heavy rock, and after uniting Naam, White Hills, Black Rainbows and The Flying Eyes to highlight trippy psychedelic groove, HPS 4-WAY SPLIT VOL. 2 gives an earthier take while continuing to feature some of the underground’s best up and coming acts!
