Any Podcast Ideas?
I’m planning on putting together the next audiObelisk Transmission this next week, and I have a few ideas, but screw it, I take requests. Anything you want to hear in a podcast? Any themes you think are begging to be covered?
Leave a note in the comments and let me know what you think the next podcast should be all about.

An all analog podcast.
Or is that too ironic? ;-)
One hit wonders.
One album wonders.
All 1970 in honor of me turning 40 next month (it would be all analog too). I know you can do it. C’mon. You’ve already got a headstart with Black Sabbath and Paranoid. Strictly 1970 releases:
MC5 – Back In The USA
Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band – Lick My Decals Off, Baby
Sir Lord Baltimore – Kingdom Come
The Stooges – Funhouse
Hawkwind – Hawkind
Blue Cheer – The Original Human Being
Amon Duul II – Yeti
Jimi Hendrix – Band of Gypsys
King Crimson – In The Wake Of Poseidon
King Crimson – Lizard
Deep Purple – In Rock
Uriah Heep – Very ‘Eavy…Vey ‘Umble
Humble Pie – Humble Pie
The Velvet Underground – Loaded
Mott the Hoople – Mad Shadows
Led Zepplin – III
Pink Floyd – Atomic Heart Mother
Syd Barrett – Barrett
Mountain – Climbing!
Steppenwolf – Steppenwolf 7
Warhorse – Warhorse
Probably a shit-ton of others I can’t think of…
Or it could be the widely celebrated/regarded birth of metal.
Its actual birth is hotly debated, but most consider those two Sabbath albums in 1970 as metal arrival in the world. Conception was obviously sometime earlier…
How about a psychedelic one? Or, a Tee Pee one since they have a bunch of shows coming up?
Since the Monster Magnet interview was so damn good, you should make it a Jersey themed podcast. It’ll be like a digital version of a night at the Brighton Bar!
Space. The final frontier. The deep beyond.
Not sure how much mileage you can get out of it, but a neat idea would be bands that sound like other bands but still manage to maintain an identity. Sort of like how Let the Night Roar cops High on Fire and Gozu QOTSA but in each case, they still manage to not sound like blatant rip offs.
Because the ticketdate of Roadburn is known, a Dutch one can be an idea.
I’d love to see you cover the newere southern scene. Kylesa, Black Tusk, Mastadon, Baroness, and any others that I don’t already know about. I feel like that’s the coolest scene going in heavy music these days.
i’m gonna have to say space, psych, kraut themes would be amazing.
I’ll second Josh, not only because I now live in the South, but because I’m getting tired of watching the trailer for “Slow Southern Steel” over and over. Seems like a super-long playlist could tell an excellent story about emerging Southern Metal and its roots. How’s this for a spin: “The Dirty South: Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue.”
Something Old: Probably too big a category, because the New Southern Metal artists stand on the backs of a helluva lot of giants. Maybe start with 13th Floor Elevators and end with the likes of COC, Eyehategod, and Buzzov-en (all of the latter performed live this year, too). My personal request: any live cut from ZZ Top’s “Fandango!” album.
Something New: Baroness, Kylesa, Mastodon, Zoroaster, Torche, Black Tusk, Weedeater, Weedeater, and Weedeater.
Something Borrowed: bands from outside the South playing Southern-style Metal.
Something Blue: those old bluesmen not only invented distortion, but they were also into the devil long before the new Southern metallurgists were born.
A Profound Lore one; the Label has been the best this year, having released quite a few quality records this year. Maybe a timeline theme?
I second the motion for a Dutch-themed one. 35007, Hooded Priest, Heavy Lord, Officium Triste, Floodstain, The Machine, maybe Viridiana?
Fingers crossed with one hand, other hand throwing the horns!
